Fair point Tech

Perhaps this video can join the ranks of frog in the eye and that other video where someone looks down the barrel and gets a mouthful. At least this guy was wearing a Mig helmet...

Actually, I disagree. He didn't seem very injured, as it was a low powered cannon, and it might convince someone that it was a safe idea. If the kids were shooting a bigger gun, or different ammo, the video could have had a very different ending.

I was looking at how close it came to the face. A loss of vision or other life altering accident was about 12 inches away.

A hit in the adam's apple could have killed him...even that very shot.

I'm a little worried that his kids will try and "beat" him by firing at each other and seeing who can dodge it or something like that. It is a great demonstration of how unpredictable hairspray combustions can be and how spudguns can be deceiving in their performance. Someone could look at a hairspray cannon firing and then want to try and face it next shot, but perhaps the fuel mix was off so performance was down but when the person goes to try and face the cannon, the fuel mix is perfect and performance could increase signifcantly.

A mere 260fps will send a spud 40m in half a second. That's not a whole lot of time to react.

All these posts, and not one of you took a second to comment where it MIGHT count?

Now I'm shaking my head. :?

Hammer the message home where it'll do some good...leave the guy a comment and let him know he needs to smarten up. I did.

Oh I forgot to mention, I actually found this video on a New Zealand news website (stuff.co.nz) in an editorial or something. The piece was about how people should shoot potato guns at boats in The America's Cup to make it more interesting:

It won't be for the faint of heart. By jingo, no!
Well, spudguns would only be going back to their roots :) by jingo!

Let's not forget that in the SAS, "One of the jungle training exercises involved two soldiers stalking each other through thick undergrowth armed with airguns, and protected only by bayonet-fencing masks!"

I'm torn between condemning this behaviour, and claiming that it's a good example of "hardening the **** up!"

Late post but...

I think the definition of the rule can be taken literally and applied to this thread, however the thread isn't really condoning it, more like making it an example of what NOT to do. Maybe the guy will find himself reading this thread and realize why he shouldn't be doing that, ESPECIALLY with his kids!
