old pipe okay?

I've recently found a 2" x 43" segment of pressure rated (280 PSI) PVC in my shop (not an actual merchant shop, work-shop), but it's been laying around for a while, any number of years, definately not older than 18 years, likely around 3 or 4 years. My question is, is it safe to use as the compression chamber for a pneumatic? If not, it's no big deal, I can go by Lowe's and pick up a new length, it's just that I spent most of my money on my first combustion gun. I'll get a bit of money for Christmas tomorrow, but I really don't want to spend it on a potato gun. I've got a small source of income, yard work, but I'm limited to $10/day, and I'll probably run out of stuff to do tomorrow. I've saved $20 so far.... I just realized I'm rambling on about something not really related to the question. Oh well. Is the old pipe cool for regular pneumatic use (100 PSI or so)?

Assuming you havn't been storing it in a tanning bed, it'll be fine. PVC doesn't degrade much over time, although exposure to high temperatures or (years of) UV can damage it.

Well, down here we don't get much extreme temperature. In the dead of winter it might get down to 20 degree F, in the height of summer, 95 degrees F.

It has been stored in a non-climate controlled workshop, and subject to those temperatures though, but from the sound of it, it should be fine then.

I don't think it's had much UV, there's only one window, and the sun can't hit too much stuff in the shop.

I just realized this.... shop is a funny word. Look at it for a while. Say it slowly. It's like hop with an 's' in front of it. There I go again, getting off topic.

ya I found some galvanised pipe in the woods the threads are decently rusty you think its safe?

I don't think their would be a problem with using that pipe pyromanic13, most metal pipes have such a high PSI rating that you could almost never reach it with a potato gun, and unless you find huge rust pits in it I doubt the integrity of it has deteriorated much.
