It ain't going to "save us alot of money if it works". Dry ice is expensive and it cannot be stored for long periods of time.

Absolutely no advantage to using dry ice in place of a CO2 cylinder. Indeed, much cheaper and more effective to use the cylinder than the dry ice.

I will try it if I can get some dry ice and convince people I'm not making bombs with it. The only real barrier is that McMaster won't ship to Canada, and I wouldn't trust hardware store fittings with 800-900 psi. Thus, I can only get shipments from McMaster about once a year when my friend from Georgia visits, and the pipe and fittings to make this device could end up costing a lot of $$$.

We aren't allowed to discuss dry ice bombs on this website. Read the rules.

Dry ice in that application is illegal in Oregon (It's considered a bomb  ), but I don't know about other states/countries.

Discussion of solid propellants, explosive devices or incendiary projectiles fired specifically from a spud cannon is prohibited, and may result in a permanent banning of your account. For the purpose of this forum, these definitions will be used:

Solid propellant: Any substance containing all the chemical elements required to enable sustained combustion without the presence of additional oxidizers. This includes but is not limited to gunpowder, thermite, and many commercial and/or homemade pyrotechnic compounds.
For this purpose, nitroglycerine, though liquid, would qualify.
For this purpose, ordinary flour, though solid, would not qualify.
Explosive device: Any device that has the capability to release large amounts of stored energy rapidly.

Discussion of fireworks as projectiles is prohibited.

Discussion of "soda bottle bombs" or any other similar devices that may cause shrapnel as a result of uncontrolled rupture is prohibited.
Incendiary projectile: Any projectile that is capable of producing flame.
Rocket propelled projectiles, pyrotechnic smoke bombs, or any other burning projectiles would qualify as an incendiary projectile.

You should probably read over the rules, even if you already have. PCGuy doesn't pull out the banstick often, but he has been known to do it. And it's usually because someone breaks rules. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just saying you should read them.

Yea, and you can get the CO2 cylinder recharged for pretty cheap. Heck, you could just get a paintball CO2 tank and get it recharged at paintball stores and a few other places for like 4 bucks.
