"valveless" cartridge concept

I just had to say that about three or four times now, I've seen this thread in the 'recent topics' list, where the title has been conveniently shortened to 'valveless car'. I keep clicking it thinking that someone's developed a new kind of engine

Happened to me a few times and I created the thread

And yes, there are "valveless" wheeled vehicles, no need to be such a wankel

It isn't, I've shelved the idea as it turned out to be more than a little fiddly in practice. At the moment I'm thinking about preloaded carts along these lines:



Before I do that though, I want to "max out" the concept in a single shot HPA launcher with a long barrel and large chamber, to see if I can better the results I had a achieved with my 6mm burst disk launcher

Yeah I've seen that car before. I particularly like this video, where they've replaced the original audio with that of.... a turbine jet

EDIT: And yes Ragnarok, I'm aware of Wankel engines... I just figured that a topic wouldn't spring up about a valveless car featuring an already well established form of engine.

What was the problem ?? I think a simple blowforward bolt would be enough to load cartridges

It needs moar adjustability - I need to a able to tweak pop-off pressure, plus having a breech seal for the cartridge means quite a lot of friction.

I don't want to start at the deep end, need more experience actually building some more valveless prototypes before moving to more advanced setups.

I think a decent high velocity airsoft calibre launcher will be enough to inspire me, watch this space

Open up a quick-connect fitting. It works just like that, but then with balls instead of a rod.

On a more serious note, recent testing suggests that a couple of balls may well be the solution as opposed to a single rod, which only puts pressure on one side and does not allow proper sealing at high pressures.

If you use a quick connect, you don't even need epoxy! the quarter inch ones should work with a .4325" projectile (basically 11mm)

so much for small bore.

You could get something like this cheaply, but there would still be an effort (and probably epoxy ) involved in connecting it to the barrel. Unless of course, it was on a cartridge and didn't actually need to be connected to the barrel.... hmmm... but still, you'd need to add a seal for the projectile.

I think in the circumstances, making your own would be much quicker.
