I am curious to hear what areas of spudding you would like to see expanded in the future.
Are you guys more interested in raw power, increasing efficiency, making automatics (pneumatic? combustion?), going bigger, going smaller, farther reaching ammo, more accurate rounds... what?
Just looking for some specific input from the community.

I'm all for raw power, bigger cannons, and long range rounds, but thats just me.

i think i would like to see "rifles" that have more power, but that are more compact.

I think it would be impossible to make a combustion truly aoutomatic, but i would definatly like to see a faster loading method. (maybe 1 shot every 5 seconds or so).

I think that a true "automatc" would have to be a pneumatic unless you made it into a pulse jet engine...

i'd also like to see a cannon that can load itself and also levitates when you aren't using it.

(that last one is just me being stupid)

I'd like to see a new type of powerful valve, like we currently have piston valves, but maybe a semi-auto valve that is as easy to build as a piston and can be the same size with decent power.

It'd be awesome if one of us got rich, then made a spudgun company for the advancement of spudgun designs and had a whole bunch of the members working there...That'd be the life

Probably not possible though......

Speaking from an urban perspective, there is an upper limit to what sort of power you can handle in a small environment, so personally I'd be more into semi/auto systems, better silencers etc.

and as for the future i'm with jsr, semi-auto and supressors. although some more realistic looking cannons wouldn't be bad.

That would be great, if by realistic you meant "more like firearms" - while this is something I would like to achieve, at the same time it does tend to dilute the identity of spudguns.

People have different motivations for bulding spudguns - I notice that many people are either too young/have a low budget/live in the wrong place to own firearms, but still want the buzz of projectile launching. There are also folks with a sizable firearm collection that still find enjoyment in spudguns because they fill a niche that powder burners can't. Personally, for example, I already have a rifle that is accurate beyond 50 yards on air which I purchased commercially - to waste time trying to achieve the same effect just to say "I built it myself" isn't worth the bother in my book. I'd rather make something like a BBMG or large calibre launcher that you simply can't buy.

Interesting how the trend appears to be towards the smaller. I could, if I wanted to, build a 10 foot long 40mm piston valved pneumatic, but such a device would be completely impractical as I simply don't have the area to enjoy its power to the full potential - and this seems to be an issue affecting many people on this forum.

I dunno, I don't like spudguns that mimic real guns.

Don't get me wrong, I admire the effort and skill needed to make some of them look realistic, but I just figure that if I wanted, say, a rifle, I'd just go out and buy a rifle.

It's the sci-fi/ghetto/bazooka look that makes it awesome, at least in my opinion.

Semi-auto and automatic systems are always interesting. The trick being how efficient can it be kept it to achieve that function.

To be honest I can live without high power, I live in some suburbs and loud noises attract too much attention. Utterly pointless to build a large bore cannon unless I then obtain a van to secretly cart it about it.

Mechanisms don't have to be noisy though and they're rare enough to be something special when they're made.
