"Electro-storm ball" for ignition

I took apart my sons "electro-storm ball" (one of those globes with the electrcity that comes from the center and will follow your finger around on the outside of the globe.) It has one wire that comes from the circuit board into the inner globe. That wire is 22 guage with heavy insulation. its rated for 20kvolts. Is that a flyback circuit? Can I mod it to make an ignition for my gun? Does anyone know how to do this?

I think that those plasma globes are powered from a high-frequency alternating, high voltage source. Assuming this, and that there's only one wire, you should be able to put in near a metal object with a bit of capacitance (large - try your car or something) and get a spark. I don't know if it will work with small metal objects or acctual capacitors... it may be worth trying a small capacitor (available at radio shack) attached to metal object.

If there are 2 wires, you should just be able to bring the ends close together.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Its a novelty desk lamp/mad scientist looking thing.
Appologies for the double post. I just wanted to clarify and bump this post up because a few people have looked at it and no one has replied.

oops. thanks leadbath. We were posting at the same time. you just beat me to the submit button. I was distracted by my kid wondering why I had his lamp taken apart.
