ok well i have an idea it might be sorta stupid but essencially it is a combustion but there is a sprinkler valve on the barrell
so it is like an air gun but when u hit the ignition button it ignites and there is no where to go so it stays in there until you turn the valve and out it goes so it is eaiser that having to pump it back up and so i dont know if it will explode

It's been discussed before. It doesn't work.

The combustion pressure only lasts for a very short time and leaves no worthwhile pressure in the chamber afterwards.

Ckman, welcome to the forums.

You've just thought of idea #1. Most spud gunning rookies think of this.

Besides what Hotwired said, why bother with the valve? Why not just ignite and launch in one step? What practical and worthwile advantage does the valve give?

If you can come up with a reason why the valve would help then you are progressing as a spudgunner. If you understand what Hotwired said then you've progressed even more.

If you can come up with a work around that gives the advantage of a two step firing process, without the problem Hotwired described, then you are moving into the "advanced rookie" stage of spud gunning.

Darn exothermic reaction! Why can't you maintain pressure over longer periods of time without losing pressure to heat and reactionary dissipation! Science is both the beauty and the beast of spud gunning. :D

Replace the sprinkler valve with a 30 - 70 psi burst disk. You'll get a real and noticeable performance increase.

Starman, you were supposed to let the rookie figure it out (or look it up). We know you know the answer.

Burst disk = automatic high speed valve
Which solves the heat loss problem while retaining the benefit of the valve.

Ckman: How might a combustion gun benefit from having a automatic high speed valve?

Lol you guys are so mean.
Are you sure you dont mean a pressurised chamber, which ignites fuel inside a chamber with compressed air in it.

Thats a hybrid, go check it on the Spudwiki
