I have a tennis ball cannon, but the same ammo gets boring after doing all that's possible with a tennisball... Even loading it with matches and firing it. (if someone would like an instruction list on how to make an ex-thermic cannon ammo, let me know) anyway i need a new ammo around the snug 2.5" size...

Just anything that fits.
Wad smaller stuff with an old rag.
Use your imagination or just take a walk around the house and see what you can find.

Not sure where you live, but you might be able to get 2.5" PVC there. Build your projectile inside that. Soft drink cans may also be a good fit if i remember correctly.

An idea if you wanted to fire smaller stuff (maybe a lead sinker) is to get some pipe with a 2.5" id, suspend your projectile in it with fishing line and fill the container with expanding foam (it's in an aerosol can). Then just cut through the middle so the foam sabot can fall of when it leaves the barrel.

I believe certain wooden bats fit inside 2.5" fairly snugly.

My suggestion: measure the inside of your pipe, then hit the grocery store with a ruler...you'll get some strange looks, but what the heck.

I think the 10oz glass Coke bottles are slightly less than 2.5".

Oooh, how about a reel from a video tape?

How about a smaller coax gun fired backwards, with fins on the barrel, so when it hits, it fires of a charge of confetti or paintballs?

cut a tennis ball in half and hot glue half to either end of a wooden dowel and add wrap steel wool around the dowel  if its a combustion that is if its a pneumatic take a funnel and cut it to the size of the pipe hot glue it too a wooden dowel and hot glue a tennis ball to the other end flies completely straight and goes farther than just a tennis ball
