sprinkler valve help

Been reading the forum the last couple of days. Great site with alot of awesome ideas. I have made a few diffrent law and mortars for paintball use. I always used 1/4 turn ball valves, and want to upgrade to a sprinkler valve.

Which brings me to my problem. I got a rainbird valve and put a 1/4 nipple in the top of it directly to a air nossle. J/b Welded the opening where the silnoied was. Same way this site does.

When i pressurize it. Air blows straight through like it is not sealing. Brand new valve striaght out the box, simple mod. Is there some thing special i am not doing right?

Is the air blowing through the pilot or the barrel? Make sure you have the the flow arrows going the right way. If anything gets on the diagram (dirt or any other small particles) it wont seal and you will have to take it apart and clean it. You can check the sprinkler valve pdf for other trouble shooting.

The chamber holds pressure (80psi). The gun shoots well if I masking tape cover the end of the barrel. But it is like I don't get much pressure (or pressure upped too slowly). The tape will hold the pressure in the unit till it builds up to a given pressure.

Any ideas???

Cleanned it, filled the silnoid are with jb weld. Flow is going the right way. It sseals at 120 psi now but is sounds like a goose. An launches the nerf vortex 20 feet. Seems to me it is not opening or sealing fast enough.
Any thoughts?

What size valve is it?
Does the blowgun have enough flow?

The valve to fire is 1", the blowgun is only to fill the chamber. NO leaks, etc. But, the problem was the mini power supply rated for 19 volts evidently didn't have enough amps to run the solenoid properly. I went to a 21 volt battery box and it all worked fine.

But, like the guy above, it shoots well, but sounds like a goose. How can I make it bang or at least not honk?

In order for it to not honk you have to supercharge the electric component. OR change it to pnuematic operation. The honking may also just be after a certain point the pressure in the chamber drops so low that the spring is pushing the diaphram back down so it is sealing and unsealing with low pressure.

ya i had this problem to what happen was some PVC shavings got sucked into my sprinkler valve so i just took it apart ran some water through it and dried it.to solve the honking i would get a bigger blowgun valve.
