this is not my idea after that enjoy

this is a simple way to make a very good explosive ammo

step 1 take blowtorch melt some glass stick it in a mold

step 2 once in mold throw the mold in a bucket of cold water

what happens is tension build up in the glass and there is a tail on the glass when the tail breaks the glass will break and explode within a few second and it so simple
(same concept as car winsheld that why there are never large pieces of glass in a crash)

always were glasses when shooting these they are explosive when they explode they fragment into very little pieces if these get in your eyes your screwed

really cool after the outside cools its clear on the out side but red in the inside

hint awesome to shoot at cement

Could glass be melted with an ordinary propane blowtorch?

I always thought of doing the same but with some kind of hollow ammo; it wouldn't really explode and fragment but it could make a bang when it hits something.

This just seems incredibly dangerous for a variety of reasons...as far as explosion simulation on impact, why not a hollow projectile filled w/ powder, not unlike simulated 40mm grenades the army uses for training?

So you want to fire Prince Rupert's drops from a cannon? They're not so much explosive as violently brittle. Certainly not explosive enough to add any grunt to a projectile's impact.

Aside from that, they're very inconsistent size-wise, and thus inconvenient projectiles; they're impact sensitive on the tail, which will naturally trail the mass dense bulb aerodynamically, so won't shatter as a result of the impact.
In the end, they're not going to present a good projectile. For that reason, I doubt anyone has actually tried this - or at least, tried it and been satisifed.

It won't hit the tail as a direct part of the impact.

Also, it'll shatter, not explode, into little pieces. Explode is a major misnomer here.

The thing about prince rupert's drops is that they break into many small pieces, making it like a powder. The internal tension also gives it greater strength. The same goes with car glass. The same is done in a controlled manner, which gives it greater strength and saftey when it breaks. It would no doubt be cool looking, but much different from exploding bullets.

I thing that they would break coming out of a gun. Enough force will go back to the tail.

high guys, first post here. why not just use some plaster of paris, it can be molded into any shape and if you let it dry just enough to keep its shape, then unmold it and bake in the oven for a couple of hours, it will then explode when it hits the target. kinda like those exploding golf balls.
lots safer than glass.

Or, you could make an expensive one :

For 3/4" barrel, take a pice of 1/2" copper, on one hand, put a compression fitting and a rod, linked to a piston with o-ring, put propane in a hybrid-style mix, 4.02 % . then apply a piece of plywood, the size of the inner diameter of the 1/2" tube, and epoxy the end.
Put some spring-loaded retractble fins, and your projectile will be stabilized.
Now what will happen is that the projectile will come out fast, rod side forward, fins get in position and stabilize the ammo in flight.
When the ammo hits the hard target, the rod will stop on it, but the higher mass of the copper tubing will continu along the axis of travel (I.E. around the rod) making the pressure spike extremely quickly inside the ammo gaz-chamber, highering the mix and pressure, making it explode violently.

I'll make a drawing if (because) my explanations aren't self-explanatory ;) well, tonight be cause i'm on for a looooong day at the university! be back in 11 hours....

Glass may be a little harder to melt and work with than you expect...

To be honest, I can really only see that making a mess and being dangerous..

Windshield glass also is safety glass and has a plastic membrane sandwiched between 2 pieces of glass. That's the main reason windshield glass crumples into small bits and not large flying shards.

One problem, it will prolly explode in the barrel, the g forces in the barrel will be much greater than the deceleration g's of impact...

I won't discuss this rule breaking topic in the forums, but if you want to know how to make real "not to be discussed type of ammo", pm me...

a teaser for you, it'll cut a 12" diameter pine tree in half...

Sounds cool, but it also sounds like that would be one hell of a mess to clean up
