Sleeving SDR-21 in SCH 80

My dad found a 6' length at work so I plan on sleeving the majority if not all of my barrel due to what happened last time. I know this stuff is heavy, but my barrel support + hand should keep the stress off the elbow.( over under)

When I sleeve this stuff, I've heard it's insanely tight. Will I need to use primer/glue to hold it together or is the fit that tight?

When I did mine.... No glue was required.

It was easy to do, however. First off, I only used a 6" piece of sch 80. I figured I needed the sch 80 for the ability to thread it to the rest of the gun (ie, for fittings), NOT for strength as I really wasn't planning on going to very high pressures in my gun (and GGDT showed pressures in the barrel to be even lower).

So what I did was hit the sch 80 with a hair dryer to heat it up a bit. This would expand it ever so slightly and soften the plastic a bit. At the same time I left the SDR outside (cold winter night...admittedly not easy to do at this time of year) so it would contract a bit.

I slapped the two together with very little difficulty (in fact, I don't remember ANY difficulty).

When the sch 80 had cooled off? Done!

Just a tip, but you can also sleeve 1-1/2" pipe in 2" SCH-40 with duct tape spacers. It's what I use on my barrels, simply because it keeps the weight down a little, and is not so expensive.

Thanks for the tips. The SCH-80 pipe was free. I just grabbed my rubber mallet and some WD-40. I got most of it sleeved by hand then when it got tough I just grabbed the mallet and worked it in. It's not as heavy as I thought it would be at 4'.

try fully sleeving 10ft of sdr21 into 10ft of sch80... that was a nubbie...

Sleeving SDR 21 in to sched 80 isn't that tight...really depends on the run sizes of the pipe which can vary slightly. I've had some that was tightish and others you could slide through like hot butter.

Well that might be because you're ideally supposed to sleeve it into 2" SCH-40.

Indeed you are correct and I misspoke.... sleeving it in sched 40...sched 80 would be nigh unto impossible.

Still sleeving into sched 40 is huge challenge.

I played around with it a bit back in my Spudtech days, and got a "butter" measurement for cutting of 15/16". I wouldn't say it's a huge challenge, but it does build character.

Yeah it put so much character in me, it made me swear to never fool with it again....

Well, being that I found out my the hardware store within walking distance of my (old) house carried SDR-21 pipe, I've never seen the use for making a full-size barrel with the sleeving method.

I just slap the SDR-21 into some 2" pipe with some duct tape spacers and epoxy, and that's the end of it. Perfect barrel.

they sell a 1.5" pipe at homedepot that fits golf balls perfectly but its way stronger than sdr-21
