Hi, i was just woundering, i live in Australia and hold a firearms license and i am going on a trip to America, were, so i hear, you can buy bb guns at wallmarts. I was just woundering if anyone new if it is possible for me to (1) buy a bb gun with out actully living in America? and (2) can i bring it back and regester it over here in Australia?

I doubt it, I'm quite sure it will be confiscated by customs.

Anyone over 18 can purchase it, they may ask to see ID, but there is no paper work or anything to buy an air gun. You will be amazed to see a whole shelf of air rifles, you just take it off the shelf, put it in your basket and go to the check out center any pay.

Weather or not you get it into your country or not is hard to say, i dont know what your laws are. Customs may open you bag to see what you have, so its a good idea to leave a note in you bag saying you are licensed and it is legal to own.

Or you could try and mail it home, not sure how that would work though.

if you dont have the correct forms (including the permission to acquire) you wont be able to bring it into Aust... and may face charges for trying.
so unless you have it sorted out with customs beforehand, i wouldnt try it

You basically have to give the good folks at customs a bell and enquire. I believe you will need to fill out a couple of forms and shell be right.

Mailing will not be allowed without correct forms aswell.

I would suggest a better air rifle then one from walmart. If you are going to northern Ohio (yeah right), the CMP (civilian marksmanship program) HQ is there by Camp Perry. IIRC, they have fairly good air rifles for either $50 or $100 USD. AFAIK, there is no paperwork.

Not in the glorious US of A perhaps, the issue is importing it into anti-gun Australia.

I meant paperwork specific to CMP, as it is a government chartered program.

perhaps break the gun into parts and ship the parts separately (probably illegal). make a stock back in AUS.

disasemble it into parts and send them in 20 parts... don't forget to add extra parts just to make it more difficult for them to realize what it is

i doubt breaking it apart would help. it sucks for us aussies, but not much you can do apart from giving customs a ring/email to ask. there will definitely be paperwork to fill out though

my neighbours bought a tazer over there and got it back into aus by breaking it apart so maybe? fair bit of money wasted though if they confiscate it

I wouldnt try to do something seaky like take it apart and mail it. I am sure there is proper paperwork to fill out to take advantage of your liscense. It is still bull**** that you have to deal with this nonsense.

On Topic: I think it's even MORE of an offense to actually brake apart the gun into Australia.

I would tend to agree with that. What sort of BB guns are we talking about here though, 0.177" or airsoft? Either way, it is possible to manufacture launchers with equal if not superior performance, possibly incorporating just some parts like magazines etc. that would presumably be importable without legal hassle.

a gun looks a whole lot different to a tazer when broken down... a bit hard to disguise a barrel

airsoft guns are illegal in aust, and so is importing magazines over a certain capacity... bloody hard to import anything to do with guns to aust, which is frustrating to say the least
