Neat push button pilot

Today I worked on my little metal gun to improve accuracy and build something unexpected.

I started with the idea of a hammer valve, bought some parts, looked around my workspace to find some usable things and finally came up with this...

... a neat little push button pilot valve.

These are the parts.

From left to right:
1/2" to 1/4" reducer
1/4" nipple
1/4" connector
1/4" end cap (drilled hole in the middle)
little spring
adjusting knob of an old mechanical alarm clock
The little aluminium rod is a spacer (something that you find between a motherboard and the chassis, only longer).

Awesome idea!
But I think I just had a better one, screw in a quick connect and you could make an automatic fill valve for a semi-auto gun...
Push down the plunger to fill, then pull the trigger and repeat.

Sorry but i really used the search. Now that you told me how you call it I've found it. Besides, the parts that are used are a bit different, so lets call it "Another way to build a push button" :banghead: "Another way to build a large shrader" :wink: .

Already tried it with a 1/4" tee in the middle, works good as well.

With the tee was a quick test to see if the valve is functional. I think in case of a semi it would be pretty impractical. I prefer a self closing piston valve and this valve as a trigger.

the only problem i see is that the pressure might make it hard to press the button at high pressures what is the diameter of the sealing head?

It's about 5mm in diameter. I can still push it with one finger at 120 psi, didn't tried more yet.

You can just buy a part that duplicates both pieces on the left and just use that. The extra pieces aren't necessary. It is a good idea to make some sort of leverage mechanism if you are going to boost the pressure. At 200-300 psi it gets a bit difficult to open a pilot valve smoothly.

1000psi = 49.0625lbs to push
500psi=24.53125lbs
100psi=4.90625lbs

With a "hammer" thats not a lot...

where is the seal o ring seals where is the inlet and the outlet i cant understand how

Look at the 2nd picture. On the left side of the aluminium rod is the sealing and the little hole in the 1/4" connector is the outlet.

248.37lbs to unseat, not sure about how much your hammer needs to weigh and travel but I'm sure Rag Or JSR can give you the formula for weight/speed/impact force...

Got that question a lot on mine.

Very neat!
I used the body of a pop-off valve to achieve the same.The entholes are there already...It gave me a much smaller valve..

Can't wait to see it on the gun...
