CO2 capsule launcher

This idea came to me a long time ago. It's simply a tube with an endcap and a dart arrow-tip to pierce the back end of the 12 gram capsule.( all metal ofcourse!!)

The capsule itself could be inserted into a piece of rubber tube ( to hold it secure when pierced)Not shown in the picture.

I'm thinking...since the CO2 is stored as a liquid it could work something like a mix between a water rocket and a burstdisk pneumatic.
What do you guys think??

THis is just the very basic set up...I've already thought my way through every upgrade of the system.( full auto included)

hmm, i like it, nice and compact but when firing a self propelling object, its probably gonna spin a bit and then come back and nail you in the face. this is a great idea if mayby you could rig 3 or more fins to the tail end like a model rocket. ive punctured a 12g co2 cartridge....... not fun...... window.......

I punctured one after I put it in a lego car thinking it would take off down the street but it didnt even move. It was a pretty light car. But even when I punctured another one in my hand it didnt move :( Maybe it would be better inside of a pipe where the expanding gases could propel it more. Sounds like a good idea have you put it together yet?

no I'm a bit held up at the moment redecorating my house.
In a pipe it would work I guess.

He's dutch like me so I get where the grammatical errors come from.Plus I've read end replied to his thread on spudtech on this subject so I know what he means.I suggested to use a dart-tip to puncture the co2 cartridge ( self-proppeled-ammo)much like a strike pin in a real gun.

spudmonkey:
50 feet?? did the capsule seal well into the barrel and..how long was the barrel??

did you seal off the back end of the barrel or did you go bazooka style with an open breach??
I'd go and build this idea if it could get up like a to 100 meters or more.
Otherwise a normal pneumatic is way more powerful.I don't want to waste money on a wimpy gun..If it doesn't penetrate plywood it's no use.

anyone with any experience on this subject please comment

:( I wouldn't bother with it. We did that as a kid and ended up with the cartridge almost in our back pocket. Without directional vanes (a pain in the rear to attach not to mention time consuming) it's like an unguided rocket. We did try a stick like a skyrocket but it had to be too long. Distance isn't worth it and the cost is too much for too little.

i think it might work, just make sure 1 know wair it well go win you fire it, and 2 make sure the 12g dosn't get stuk in the barerl or it might explode.
