i have a guestion about installing a shrader valve. i have a automobile type one (it has a bulb on the bottom that seals) and i dont have a drill big enough for it (though i could make a hole with some effort ) and i was just wondering if anyone has any comments about how to install it?
or i could buy a screw in schrader quite easily , however i dont have taps and i think it would work (my dad doesnt) to just hook it up to a drill and"screw" it into a premade hole (with teflon tape of course [but would i drill it in , take it out, then put on the tape and drill it back in , or just drill it in with the tape in the first place]).

thanks for the info and srry if this is abit confusing.

oh by the way this is my first pnuematic and i am going with the over under design.

also any ideas on how to pressurize a 2" by 1' chamber faster than a bicycle pump( a BIG pump mind you) without using a compresser would be helpfull

just drill a small hole and make it bigger with scissors or something.

thats exactly what i did on my first cannon, also an over under design
when i drilled it in the first time thougn, i took alittle lighter and heated the schrader valve up a little bit so it basically made its own threads into the pipe.. that + teflon tape + epoxy around the valve a litte bit = pressure tested to 175 PSI no problem (i usually use it at 80, which is FAR more than what i needed)

There is no need for any of this. Buy a common 1/4" threaded schrader valve, drill a 1/2" hole and use a wrench or ratchet to screw the valve in. There is no need to tap anything on this if you are using pvc. The valve taps itself easily with no stupid heating or anything. I've done it dozens and dozens of times with no leakage at all.

The 1/4" is the measurment of the inner diameter. The outer diameter of the fitting is a tad larger than a 1/2" hole but the right size to allow you to get it in by hand and still not allow leakage.

You should not need to use any teflon tape but check your fit by pressurizing the chamber and spraying soapy water on the fitting. If you see any bubbles then unscrew the valve and use (or use more) teflon tape.

Also make sure you actually get the 1/4" one and not that weird 3/16" one or whatever it is. If you get that kind then you will need to choose another drill bit that you find suitable. Start small if you have doubts on the right bit. If it wont thread in right then drill it out a little with the next size bit and so on.

Here's my honest opinion though: Schrader valves often times really suck. Not all filler nozzles fit them right and they have a horrible flow rate. My suggestion is to use a 1/4" quick-disconnect air fitting that will clamp right into your compressor. Be sure to put a small ball valve on your air line and/or chamber so you can control the flow.

hmmm i think i get it but is the air hole on the threaded side the
1/4 part or is it the out-side diameter minus the threads?...better yet could you just make a diagram?... if not im sure i can figure it out

however i cannot use a quick disconnect because im too lazy/ dont want to do one on my first pnuematic/ i dont have a compressor

and a off topic question..how is it that you only hve .44 "spud bux" and yet your a donating member?...what are "spud bux" any way

thanks

Actually I'm not sure how they are measured. All I do know is that the name it is given corresponds to the approximate inner diameter and that 1/4" fittings thread nicely into 1/2" holes.

Spud Bux are earned for the ammount of characters used in a post. You get a certain ammount each time you reply to or create a topic.

I only had .44 because I put the rest of it in the "Bank" which is prettymuch a joke. The .44 was just what I had on hand at the time. I have almost 200 in the bank, which really isn't much. When I actually get 200 I will buy the G-String. I can't wait!

The "Donating Member" title means I donated real money to PCGUY to help support this site.
