First post ^^

Well anyway im new to the spud gun making and I just recently started my first one, so far it consists of what is in the picture, the trigger is for a spyder imagine paintball gun, im gonna use the 25g in it for a switch if it works. Anyway my problem is that I bought a sprinkler valve , orbit 1" and i was wondering if i dont have it electrically charged will it seal fully. This is because when i pumped air into the resevior it leaked out the barrel. So basically i was wondering if it needs to be electrified to not leak. I have the arrows on the valve pointing to the barrel.

Have you done any research? One, your ratio sucks. Two, turning the power on fires it. You should have done some research before you built a pneumatic.

with all do respect there is no need for an attitude or any kind of insult, if you cant help me then please dont respond with rude comments. Instead of, your ratio sucks you should be telling me a better one, this is how i am doing my research, and of course electricity fires it, but why does it leak out the valve if i put air into it with no electricity going through it. This is the second valve ive tried brand new from the box.

there is a small switch next to your solenoid, you have to set it on off ...

dude, you're gonna get the attitude no matter where you go.
your ratio isnt the best, but its not terrible...about 1:1 maybe.
go to the spud wiki and look there for the best ratios
people dont take too kindly to noobs to the spudding world, asking for easily-found information...
and air might be leaking thru the valve because you arent pumping air into it fast enough (you have to get a bit of pressure into the gun quickly so that the diaphragm will seat nicely)

so if i reduce my barrel size to 1.5 inch and have a 2 inch resevior will it be alot better or still not too much better?

hmmm i have a question. does anyone know if "honking" of the valve happenes at a low pressure or a high pressure

A-98, its probably because your barrel is too short, save that question for another topic. also Mihlrad, id say the best ratio would be about a 3:1, but thats just my preference.... although currently im building one with around a 12:1  . but that cannon is ****ing huge. besides that, its probably not sealing for a few of the following reasons.

1. sprinkler valves seal at 20PSI, you may not be getting air into the chamber quickly enough, put away the compressor, be a man, and use the pump.

2. the diaphgram might have debris on it, or it might not be sealing, check this by opening your valve (only if you already have) and look for holes in the diaphgram or dirt or anything else. clean it.

3. electric igntion is very slow, try going for a pneumatic style trigger like a blow gun valve, look in the how-to section on sprinkler modification, they have what you will need.

hope this helps you out, and please...please stop asking these basic questions... it makes me type alot.
