Hey guys, i have a build in progress with a homemade wood stock(it will b up real soon), and i am going to home depot in the morning for a 1/4 inch metal barrel and some wood stain. i am just wondering, what is a good DARKER wood stain color?
BTW heres the project- still need wood stain, and a barrel, Grip needs to be shortened, and possibly a dummy magazine, and the stock needs to be carved out a little more to give it a better shape. it runs on either green gas(actually propane, with an airsoft gas gun fill valve) or duster gas, whichever one i am closest too. i chose those gasses because they are readily available on the airsoft feild(in my tac vest). Any help is very appriciated.

That walnut looks pretty nice, and i just googled red mohogany gun stock and it also looks very nice. whatever color i choose will be used on the grips and on the body.

I would use either a transparent gray dye, or black ink to "ebonize" it.
It looks like you've got a chunk of pine there. I would almost suggest just painting it. Pine rarely has much to show off.

i would love to spraypaint it black, but since i moved into this new house, my parents wont let me spraypaint(dont want overspray on anything), so i have to stain it. And yeah im pretty sure its pine. and what do u mean by ebonize it?

gaderalguitarist, ebonizing is a interesting idea, I saw a neat aritcle in a woodworking magezine. However Im not sure it will work very well on pine because it works better on woods with more tannin. heres that article I think.

Blind909: The simplest way to get a nice even black finish on your piece would be to go to a crafts store and pick up a bottle of Speedball black india ink. It comes in a small plastic jar. Paint it on and treat it like a stain.
Jor2daje: Thanks for the link. I wasn't even thinking about how it would work less with pine. Generally I stay away from pine as much as possible.

Ok, so i went to home depot and got a small jar of Red Mohogany stain, and applied it and it looks great! I also finished carving the stock, and i also stained the fake wood grips(it was plastic, but i sanded it and applied stain to it and it gave it a VERY nice look!)
