IS it just me or does it seem like http://www.mcmaster.com is really overpriced?
Anything valve bigger than 1" can be upwards of $70.

$117.32 for a 1" Solenoid Valve, don't those normallly cost 15-20 bucks?

I can get PVC unions at my local hardware store for half the price.

Are there any other websties that sell PVC supplies but at cheaper rates?

McMaster isn't really supposed to be a PVC supplier, they're for business's that need parts to repair stuff...

Their 1" solenoid valves arn't anywhere near the same thing as a 1" sprinkler valve, their valves are metal and for high pressure stuff.

mcmaster isn't really that practical.

and they awalys have drawings of their products, whats up with that? gimme a real picture gosh!

and did it ever occur to you that pictures means higher file size? and they have over 435000 products... and 3577 pages in their cataloge

For people like us who don't want to spend too much cash, this site isn't very useful.

Do you realize how big there stock is? Like ST says its 435000. Lets assume that everything costs them a average of ten dollars… Now if you have one of everything how much money is that? Almost 4.5 million… (4,350,000) That’s one of everything, they probably have hundreds of each. So not to mention storage, coordination, and labor there is a ton of overhead. Only reason Wal-Mart and such can do it is because they move the stock a hell-a lot faster. So when they got shit moving and buy in super-sized quantities there is room to lower prices. McMaster is a god send for the variety of stuff they provide, you got to give them props. Ill admit there expensive, but only understand why.

I'm not saying that they don't have a right to charge that much, I'm just saying that the place is expensive relative to what is adequite for us.

McMaster to us is mainly to find the things we can't find in the local store.

For companies not only does it provide someplace to find everything you need, you can order a ton of it and just expect it to be there. No where else online (for this type of stuff) can you go somewhere, find everything you need, order and it comes in a few days.

Your retarded.... it's 100+ for 1" valve, not a 1" sprinkler valve...

With that 1" valve it is is not for sprinklers so it doesn't have protection against "water hammer", so it would open instantly, and the valve is made of all metal, so it can withstand pressure well over 100 psi, it has no similarities to a sprinkler valve.

McMaster is mainly a supply company for large companies, do you really think they're bitching about the price? hell no, if they cant find it, and they need it fast for a job, they'll gladly shell out the cash for it. if you're pissed about their prices DONT SHOP THERE! i use mcmaster mainly for parts i'd never find around here, like 3000psi rated fittings and QEV's, and i dont think 20 bucks is too bad for a QEV anyway.

and spudshot, no one's pissed about prices, we're just curious y these products are so expensive. people shouldn't get pissed about prices, there's usually a cheaper alternative.

Anyway, yes, mcmaster isn't the cheapest place on earth. Get over it, and just don't buy things which are "way overpriced" from them.

Those valves are only available for $15-20 is because they are used/old and the people selling them on ebay don't understand their actual value. Those valves are supposed to be $50+ list price. Anything on ebay is cheaper anyway fro the most part. Of couse it will be a lower cost than McMaster.

Go to sprinklerwarhouse.com, a <i>retailer</i> and notice that their sprinkler valves sell for 13-15$ for a low-end model, which is roughly what we are buying.

On the more expensive end, they have a nice 2" rainbird PEB series that's rated to 200 psi... for 89$.
At 200 psi, modded, that'd be better than a supah valve <i>in all situations</i>.
