Ballistics Gel test video. BBMG/PVC coax/ HPA piston valve.

This gel was made by following SB15's tutorial:

I colored the gel with red food coloring, it is NOT jello.


The gel was shot with, a standard airsoft pistol, a BBMG with dentent, a 100psi coax cannon, and lastly with a HPA 1/2'' porting piston valve cannon.

In the photo below, you can see a few "welts" from rounds that bounced off.
Also, you can see a few shattered BB's.

I sure wont be using this BBMG in any airsoft wars....

Shame you don't have a high speed camera.

Some Mythbuster style testing using bone cast into it would be great though also perhaps some "ballistic gel behind cover" testing for the more powerful launchers.

Well... i needed to see how it felt compared to flesh.... :bootyshake:
(its pretty darn close if i do say so myself.)

I was very surprised...none of the BB's went all the way through (1.5'')
but there was one .2g bb that ALMOST made it.

If you pay attention.... during the coax shot, you can see the gel distort ALOT. just one frame or two.... but those 2 frames made me want a high speed camera SO badly.

any idea on the slowest FPS it can do?

ebay listing excludes this info...and my google zen is failing me.

Found it: 420 fps. seems fast enough for most spudguns.

Actually it's 1000 fps, 420 fps, 210 fps, 30-210 fps

The more frames per second, the worse the video quality and the more light you will need for a decent shot though.

I can't speak for the FS-10 but all of my high speed videos were made with this model.

Thanks for the info.

The beauty of this gel come from the fact you can melt it and re cast it until it molds. Im casting it in a deeper container for more HPA shots.

Maybe you should cast it in a PVC tube or similar? You could shoot it while it's still in the tube, it will stop projectiles deflecting too much.

Wow, I thought that tutorial was long forgotten by now. Good to see that people are still finding it to be useful.

As for the red food coloring... i thought the off yellow color looked kinda bland. haha.

I love how you can re melt this stuff with just a sink full of hot water. Its been quite usefull.

(New casting is done! time to go shoot it some more!)
