hello to all

i have always wondered if a hammer valve could be used too power a bigger cannon i wanted to build something wit a back barrel breech to load directly in too the barrel like a howitzer

so here is the concept no idea if it will ever be build but hey
it doesn't have a trigger yet so its just the basic gun

Yeah, that looks like it would work. Would it be a muzzle loader, or would you find a spot for a mag?

Otherwise, how big of a canon and how much pressure?

Smallish point...bearing area on the valve stem as drawn is pretty small...more bearing area (length) will reduce the requirement for precision fitted pieces, and help with controlling leakage during the firing cycle. Also aids valve stem alignment when the stem is re-seating.

Transfer porting as drawn will detract from performance...it's not just a "flow area"...it's dead space.

Edit: Ah hell...this always happens to me. Ninja'd is the appropriate term these days?

If you want to be able to use this for a large cannon, the valve will be to big to push open.

But yes,

a hammervalve can be scaled up.
It's what I have been doing.
Just have an opposing piston on the valvestem to equalise the force excerted on it.

The counterbalanced hammervalve...it works in any scale.

Looks like this is what I will do to make my friend the howitzer he wanted... Except you get to hit the valve with an actual hammer, something along these lines. Image
