So I've been wanting to build an air soft cannon for a while now, but I can't determine what to use to power it, so for the past 2 weeks I've been going back and forth trying to decide. I was looking to keep it quiet (I'm thinking pneumatic are quieter) but I like the simplicity of a propane metered cannon. I also think its much faster to get another shot off with propane as I was going to use a bike pump to fill the chamber up. I've also can't decide on how I'll actually use it, any input on whether it should be handheld (bazooka style) or mounted on a tripod/chassis (artillery). I was going to use a buckshot of 50-100 .2 gram bb's at a min of 100 ft for safety reasons. Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

ps if this is in the wrong section can a mod please move it I wasn't sure were to put it.

If you want to play on a licensed airsoft field a combustion is not likely to be allowed.

I was planning on using strictly for our field, but I want to get maximum performance with minimum noise, I don't want to make the people around us all mad hearing bangs all day. What type of pneumatic were you suggesting, I don't understand most of them besides the sprinkler valve or a burst disk type setup.

What type of gun are you looking to make? Full? Semi? You can't expect us to give you suggestions unless you specify what you need a bit more.

A sprinkler valve is fine, but the disadvantage to pneumatics is that they need COMPRESSED GAS. While I love pneumatics more thatn anything (maybe I love hybrid more.. haha) I really think that unless you can get a large gas powered compressor to use strictly for you cannon, an advanced combustion cannon with a simple silencer would be JUST fine. Most of my airsoft pneumatics would need a compressor, or at least a HUGE Co2 tank. I have designs for sniper rifles, flame throwers (They HEAVILY resembe Neospud's flamethrowers), advanced rocket launchers (they have scopes, and loading systems.. I'm rather proud of them.. haha), grenade launchers (either pneumatic, or they can use airsoft grenade shells. [The 40mm kind]), SMG's, and stationary machine turrets, that use TWWO guns, instead of one!! I would gladly message you the designs if you'd like.

I should of mentioned this earlier. I'm not trying to do. Bbmg. Just a simple cannon that will propel a wad of 50-100 bbs buckshot style. Also what do you thhk is the Max fps this wad should leave the barrel at, some of our guns shoot. 500fps full auto wit. 25gram bbs so I have to compete with there range and power. I've done some hdgt testing and my results were good a little o the powerful side. For the silencer how well do they work for combustions. As of now I've been going back and forth for 3-4 months lol

What type of mount do you think will be best applicable to Airsoft. I wanna merge mobility usefullness and a little astheticly pleasing.

What form of a cannon do you think would be best an actual howitzer or like a 40mm launcher

What's the DB level of a combustion (approximately ) if it's not to loud ill go with combustion. Is it like a nailgun at 150 ft?

The decibels of a combustion really depends. For power comparison you should download HGDT and set the burst disk failure to 0 and the ign num to 1 for combustion and get GGDT for your pneumatic. I would recommend the combustion for simplicity and so you don't have to carry around a pump or compressor. One little thing you should remember is, no matter how weak your cannon looks, at short range you could injure someone really bad. I learned that from my first cannon after everyone told me it wouldn't be that powerful I turned a 2 by 4 piece of plywood (3/4" thick) into splinters.
