Sights

I've done a few searches that came up blank so does anyone put sights on there cannons, or do they just wing it with good guesses with projectile drop. I was thinking of a m9 bazooka sights, or maybe m203 leaf sights, just not sure if there needed or worth the time to build good ones. I'm very limited on meta working ability due to only having a stick welder (I'm not good at thin stuff)

What about on a larger caliber cannon like a 1 or 2 in barrel, something with more of a lob shot style shooting.

i would guess it would need a kind of m320 ish sight

What are you using your cannon for? On my cannon I don't have any sights and I really don't need them. But I don't use my cannon for airsoft or paintball or anything like that.

Sights are a good idea but I suspect the reason you don't see them very often is that most spudgun ammo is not all that consistent and most guns are smooth bores. Throw in spray-n-pray setups in combustions and poor reproducibility of pressurization in simple pneumatics and accuracy and reproducibility get even worse. So even with a good solid sight setup the accuracy isn't all that great at distances where sights are useful.

Well I was kind of thinking of a m203 not precise but a rough idea of impact. I was going to put it on a combustion that will be metered/syringed fueled. Hoping for something somewhat consistent

i agree with jimmy101.

BUT adding sights is never completely useless. IMHO

surely the ammo and gun arent accurate at all, but making sure you point the thing the same way every time rules out human aiming error a bit...

plus, it simply looks better.

Putting a sight on a cannon means you'll be putting your face very close to it.
A cannon will most likely produce recoil.
Be prepared for a black eye.

Seems a bit risky to me without any real benefits.

I'd say you are better off with a laser to help you aim while you can fire from the hip.

What if I had a stock (for lack of a better term) for recoil, and the sight had a farther eye relief so it wasn't on top of it.

My large caliber is fired from the hip due to recoil. Due to the round shape a laser pointer would be very difficult to keep oriented vertically.. I think of the barrel as an open sight. Trigger at the hip. The barrel tip on or above the horizon in the line of sight is the sight. It works pretty good.
