on the way home from school i noticed a 20ft cardboard tube. it's about 1/3" thick, an can take a tesco value (dont bother asking, im english

) anyway, i coevered one end with a CD and copious amounts of tape. i drilled a touch hole, and cut it to 6ft. then put a bolt through to stop the bottle going in to far. i use hair spray as a propellant. i spray it into the bottle for about 5 secs, spray down the barrel for a few seconds, and shove the bottle down to the bolt nose first (screwcap end first, no cap). i then pray through the touchhole and light it and... vwooosh... it goes 50ft in the air. is therew any way i can improve this and/or make it more powerful?
thanks,

look into using pvc. you can make a cheap, simple combustion cannon with a lantern sparker or bbq ignitor. you will be very pleased with the results. check out the combustion cannon section on this website

I wouldn't want to make it any more powerful. A CD isn’t very strong and I don't like the thought of flying shards of ploycarb when it blows. Look into a basic PVC combustion cannon if you want more power.

I totally agree with Carl. When that CD blows, its going to suck to be your hand. You should probably give the cannon to someone you don't like, or to a hand model. If you're lucky, you'll be able to give it to a hand model you don't like.

the cd will not shatter, there is a hole in the back end (because the cd has a hole in it, barely any pressure is witheld and that's the main reason it only goes 50 ft.). and if a projectile is able to slide down the barrel like a pop bottle its not going to plug the barrel and have flames rocketing full force out the back.
do you know what pressure milk jug plastic breaks at? and that is way less solid than a cd, plus there no hole in the middle of the milk jug plastic.
if you would have messed around with a launcher similar to this you would have known, experience counts.
Joe
to make a gun worth while u should use pvc pipe like lucyinthesky said.
your current gun works ok but its just too ghetto and not worth improving, have u burnt ur hand yet? lol

maybe you were smart and didn't use a little cigarette lighter like me.

first of all who said he didnt cover the cd hole with tape?
second of all whats a milk jug got to do with anything? (and i would rather have a milk jug split somewhere than hard sharp cd chunks flying)
and third of all if its all covered with tape then i dont think the shards are going anywhere.

evaluating statment "pressure containers with holes can't blow up"
Pipebombs are esentialy pressure containers which one trys to overpressure.
Pipebombs have fuseholes. Fuse holes are holes.
Pipebombs still go boom.
statment evaluated to "false"

Haha blb. Ya I'm pretty sure he covered the hole. And I also agree that you should make a new one out of pvc.

i covered one hole with a 2 pence peice (slightly larger than thehole in a cd), and the other just with tape. if the pressure gets to great the cd pushes out and the tabe burns through. and yes, i did use a ciggarrete lighter.. and yes i did burn my hand... my middle finger went all yellow/white with black bits and is still all crispy... but im not going to use pvc. it shatters. carboard just burns. atleast if it sets on fire i can put it out.and i did cover the cd in tape. but lynx is just to expensive. i can buy 400g of hair spray for 99p (about 1.5 dollars i think) and iused adidas but it wasnt as powerful as hair spray. and i have another bottle covered in newspaper. that is slightly to heavy, but it gives a tighter fit.
gotta go,

PVC doesn't shatter unless you use the non pressure rated. I just hope that your cardboard tube doesn't blow up in your face!
