I plan on making my first spudgun this week and was wondering if a 8 ft cannon would work with a diaphragm valve made with a tupperware lid/rubber. Hate to bother ya guys with a newbie question :) Thanks!

Would that be 8' inner or outer diameter?
I don't see why it wouldn't work, provided you keep the ratios right (not only chamber volume to barrel volume, but also bore to lenght).

 8 ft long, might try some neoprene also if I can find it. I think that would work better. Thanks for your input :)

start small. just jumping into something that bug is a bad idea. you are sure to run into problems

Some more dimensions would be helpful... perhaps a paint diagram

I have built several piston valves in the past (coaxial and barrel sealing), and I have found that the most important thing is to get a good sealing material. You can try to find good material around your home, and you may get lucky. I just bought stuff off of mcmaster that I KNEW would work, and I am glad that I did
