Does anyone know how to make a silencer for a pueumatic marble gun.

If it reduces sound 2 db, then its illegel.

For a reall silencer the silencer area needs to be up to 20times the volume of your barrel,which isnt really feasible or practicle.But you will no doubt read articles about how you must stuff areas very tightly with foam,but dont do it its only hindering perfomance the sound needs to be traped not bounced back out.

no! its not a silencer, its a barell extender that happens to reduce the sound :D

Actually it's an environmentally friendly noise pollution reducer. I'm sure the
EPA would even sanction that!

Why would you need a silencer on a pneumatic marble gun?

They work just as well on pneumatics.
Actually, the burst of air in a pneumatic is actually louder than in a combustion since it's faster. The flame front's shockwave is a different matter.

Why would you need a silencer?? Cause it's cool and you don't get any more complaints from your neighbours that's why...

I made a small bore metal pneumatic gun and it kicked ass with the silencer.pshhhhjjj and that's it.(I also silenced the excaust).It shot through a wooden barn...

WHy do you guys keep posting simple to answer estions in the theories section? Took me 30 seconds to find.

Post these kind of questions in General.

I have moved the topic.

Benny, that's an American law. How are we supposed to know if mitchy is from America?
DAMN F'ING NEWBS! TELL US WHERE THE F! YOU ARE FROM IN YOUR DAMN PROFILES! THIS IS GETTING ON MY 'ING NERVES!

Furthermore, that's if it decreases sound output 2 db when attatched to a real firearm. Spudguns arn't firearms.

Anyway: google "supressor" or "silencer".
Get to know the therory.
Make your own design.

you don't need to be very clever to not fall into the traps like stuffing foam or sand or any other material to make a silencer. The sound decrease comes from the fact that the air goes down the barrel, and then fills the silencer so that when the air finally comes out of the barrel, the pressure is very low, that's why there is no loud crack. with a normal sized gun, the volume of the silencer must be 20 times the volume of the canon. For a marble gun with a 4' long barrel of 1/2", you would need a 3" in diameter and 20" long silencer...

Legally BLB, spud guns ARE firearms.

As defined in section 921(a) (3) of Title 18, United States Code (USC) the term "firearm" means --

* (A) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive;
* (B) the frame or receiver of any such weapon;
* (C) any firearm muffler or firearm silencer; or
* (D) any destructive device. Such term does not include an antique firearm.

"But you will no doubt read articles about how you must stuff areas very tightly with foam"

If im not mistaken wrapping it tightly will defeat the purpose. I rather in my design loosely packed wall insulation into the suppressor.

Gort, I think we can take the law into our hands at this point. Laws are made for a reason strangely enough. The power difference is similar to that between a chainsaw and a butter knife. Id say if you were to use the gun in a destructive means obviously it shouldnt be allowed, but if the gun is being used in a safe manner, then why should such a thing be not allowed? Surely the reason they ban sells all together is so some gangster cant walk into a gun shop and says he needs the silencer for "recreactional" purposes, and the shop owner has no evidence, only a hunch that the claim may be un-true.

Usally if your intent is not wrong or violating someone elses freedom, usally you dont have to worry about getting in trouble with the law. Im sure my neighbors were on there knees when I got a suppressor...

sgort, have you bothered to look up their definition of "explosive"?
No? (hint: solid)

Which of course makes any random pipe with an endcap on it... ney, any random hollow thing with a plug... ney, it doesn't even have to be hollow... a firearm, but that's besides the point...

Anyway... we have submitted the scenario to the ATF, and gotten the ruling that they are not firearms.
Untill they revise their statment, that's the way they see it.

And to the volume of the silencer required for real firearms, that's dependent appon the quantity of gas produced by the cartrige. In our case, that's determined by the volume of the chamber. (and the pressure it's charged to.)
I would suspect that one wants the silencer volume to be large enough to bring the C:B ratio (B in this case including silencer) to the optimum.

Mitch is from Australia. Has anyone tried the one on AdvancedSpuds? How does it go?
