Noisemaker cannon!

Ok it being new years and all,ive been shooting off my cannon since about 5:00 pm eastern time.Basicly competing to see who can make the most noise with theese neighbors in the neighborhood behind me that go WAY OVERBOARD! on the fireworks every year(new years and 4th of july)Now not to take anything away from my current gun Because it's Extemely loud! But i just want something for the 4th and new years next year to completely blow away everyone as far as noise. So here's what ive come up with so far,im definately going to have metered propane, chamber fan, most likely stun gun ignition, and i think im going to go with a 6" thick combustion chamber probably 1' long or so(without couplings and fittings)so the total area should = about 339 cubic inches or 18" long by 6" thick. It will definately be burst disk capable simply because you can't hardly make noise with a spud cannon without using burst disks. Also theres another thing i will be doing and that's building a custom bell to put on the end of the barrel(kind of like a trombone)I know for a fact that increases the sound because i tried that a little tonight, granted the bell was a smaller cannon getto rigged to the end of my barrel. But it did significantly increase the sound,in fact my cousin could hear it 3 miles away and it was just as loud as people shooting off fireworks near him.So basicly the reason i posted this was to see if anyone could give me advice on what thickness or how long my barrel should be to make it AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE!Also any other advice that could potentaily increase the noise is welcome.

Well you want a short barrel But not to short. A 2 foot 2 or 3inch barrel would be good. Yes Im pullimg the legthes and widths out of my ass. Like you said you could attach larger diameter pipe at the end to make it louder and direct it more.

Yep thats what im planning on doing, ill try to post up pics tomarrow of the way i had it attached to my gun last night to give you an idea. But when i actually start building this it will definately be a custom built bell probably a bit smaller than the 4" thick by 8" long combustion gun i had attached to the end of the barrel for the bell. And my main reason for asking about barrel sizes was because i figured one of theese reall smart guys on hear would have the perfect combo for me lol.

And i figure a 3" thick barrel because one would natrully think that it would be louder like that, but then again if you go from a 6" chamber to a 2"barrel then the power has to compress into that small barrel coming out with extreme velocity(probably were that bell would come in handy).

Just do what we did last night:

Take a spudgun already constructed with fuel injection and a chamber fan, (these are some critical factors). Take the barrel off so all you have is the chamber opening. Inject fuel with the fan on and then ignite. Give a nice BOOM and big blue fireball out the front. Scares the crap out of anybody you shoot it by.

Yeah, forget the barrel but but a union over the end of the chamber and use burst disks.......BOOOOOOOOM!!!!

I highly dought that's as loud as i had my gun last night, and im trying to make one UNGODLY LOUD!Also i had an extra male fitting that would screw into my coubustion chamber and used that with a burst disk and it really wasn't any louder than with a short barrel. And on top of that i would prefer a barrel anyway to project the sound in a certain dircetion otherwise it just goes everywere and isn't as loud.

Oh and here's some pics of the gun last night, that thing on the end was originally supposed to ba a small cannon but i served quite well as a bell.

All i can say is wear ear protection with the finished cannon.
Very few people have constructed a cannon with the sole purpose of making noise.

I am going to build a noise maker cannon also I was thinkin about using a 4 inch by 3 or 4 foor chamber and a 2-4 foot barrel my cannon now has (or should I say had, the ignition screws cracked the chamder and I am in the process of rebuilding it) a 4"x2' chamber and a 2"x6' barrel and is really loud but I ant louder I want a ground shaking boom. I am also thincking about buying a noise maker cannon or a flash pot (google it)

You could use increasingly large reducers on the end of the barrel to make a nice "bell"

idk if it works or not but on the wiki it says putting a burst disk on it will make it louder: http://www.spudfiles.com/spud_wiki/inde ... Burst_disk read the 4th paragraph

heres what you do...
make a 5" barrel and put a cap on it.
then get a 10' remote firing line and go behind a wall.
BOOM!!
that would be loud

(you could not glue the cap... or glue it but it might not have the force to blow)

Burst disks make it alot louder, I have gone deaf for 30 secons when i used them on my combustion before.

fill a trash bag with aceytlene and oxygyn and tie it to a three foot fuse, tie the trash bag to a few helium ballons and light it and let it go....
Wear hearing protection DEFENATELY!!!
This stunt has been mistaken as a sonic boom!!!
