I was wandering if anyone knows how much pressure 4" pvc can hold.

well most pvc would tell you on the side and if it is not pressure rated i advise you not to use it

Just google PVC pressure ratings.

if it is cell core then it isn't designed for pressure.
It should take under 40 psi without fail but which is is it abs or pvc? abs cellcore is what you want if you can't get nsf-pw pvc

That said, 4" cellular core should withstand moderate pressure for short durations, as in a combustion gun. It is unacceptable for use in a pneumatic cannon however, as sustained pressure of even low amounts could cause it to catastrophically fail.

Scuttlebutt (I could just lick that word...scuttlebutt) says cellcore is fine for a hairspray combustion, or something equally ghetto, but it is strongly advised not to use it.

Solid sch 40 is 220 psi water at 70 something deg. that is most common at hardware stores.

shouldnt use more than 100 psi air in PVC for safety.

the question is, how high is too high of a pressure when you drop it? Is it going to simply blow air at you or blow up on you?

I wouldnt use it for anything period. Nothing at all. Use the Sch-40. It is better than having it blow up in your face.

And Nichoai you do know that the 220PSI is the working pressure and not the bursting pressure right?

i was simply stating the pressure rating on the side of the pipe from memory because i work with 4" quite a bit

ive seen 1" pvc take a 600+ psi charge of co2 and not blow up

then it got dropped and a 1/4" brass quick disconnect fitting turned into a projectile
