It's called a punt gun because thats exactly what it was fired from.

Back in its day wildfowl hunters would go out in a boat (or a flat bottomed punt) with one of those mounted on the bow, they'd lie down in the boat to fire it at groups of wildfowl on the water.

....and *voila* instant duck paste :wink:

Well the guys who used to use it were serious hunters, usually doing it for a living and it was very effective for killing large groups of wildfowl.

I believe it's loaded with about 500 lead balls for taking out lots of ducks or other birds. Kind of ruins the point does'nt it?

Haha... I got a good laugh out of that.

This gun though, it's just insane! You could take a small plane down with that thing.
