Pneumatic Arm

Today I was messing around with some pipe and thinking how I was going to make my own imatation supah vavle. I couldnt think of any good designs so I decided that I will start construction on a supah vavle (not the real one) shown here. The Purple pipe would be 2" sch80 and the green pipe would be 1.5" sch 40. Then the idea suddenly struck me of using that same concept to make a pneumatic arm.

How it works is the same way a hydraulic arm works. Now I no your going ok thats cool but what would you use it for? Well what Ill use it for is to adjust the vertical projectory on my almost completed hybrid. Here is a picture of how it works.

The red thing is the pneumatic arm and is capable of shorting and extending. Green thing is just sometype of a stand that allows the cannon to pivot at the pivot point. The pneumatic arm will be constructed out of 2" sch 80 and 1.5" sch 40.

CONSTRUCTION:
Parts List: Picture Color:
1x 2" sch 80 pipe - - -Green
1x 1.5" sch 40 pipe - -Pink
1x 2" cap - - - - - - - -Red
1x 1.5" cap - - - - - - -Blue
1x 1/4 to schrader - - Yellow
2x I bolts - - - - - - - -Gray

First tap the I bolts into both caps. Then glue the caps onto the pipes that they fit in. After that tap the schrader vavle into the side of the cap threw both the cap and the 2"sch 80. Once complete slide both of them together and enjoy!

With the weight of the barrel pushing down on the arm and no pressure inside of it will look like this.

But after you pump it up it will start to extend (the more air= the farther it will extend)

Please tell me if you like it or if you have recommedations. I thinking about putting a oring on the 1.5" pipe but Im not sure. Feedback would be greatly appreciated. Just ignore the pictures at the bottom.

for the past week,i've been thinking of makeing a "flight simulating chair" with something like that, with realistic ejection!

although pimpman are you going to use some kid of o-rings because the pipes a close fit but it wont be airtight

I like the Gloved hands he uses to replresent air flow :D

Pimpman you'll have to make the Green Pivot Point able to slide because when the hydralic ram goes up and down it will cause the Green pivot point to buckle in the wrong direction....

What you'll accually have to do is make the Green pivot point locked (non-pivot) and put the bottom of the green stand on something that it can slide across....

If the hydralic ram moves up, your green pivot would look like this \ then when you put the ram back down it will lock up the green pivot point I believe...

I know I'm talking to a dead topic, but I just wanted to say something

Frogy, im not getting you...

Although I had a new idea that would only require a ~4" stroke. Have you ever noticed the "things" on telescopes that control the vertical movement? That little metal rod could be replaced with a pneumatic cylinder to control the movement. All I need now is some how to use a pneumatic cylinder to produce a circular motion. Thats kinda hard converting a linear force into circular force, but possible after you think of a steam engine and such.

Just kick the bottom of the arm to the left and you're fine.

sgort, that eliminates half the point of the exercise.
