Man I think the egg would burst in your barrel, exept you hard boil it... I think. Anyway take and average egg and mesure it.

I'm moving this to general because it's not really an ammo discussion.

As to your gun dimentions:
Do you want it to be noisy?
How long can it be overall?

I'v measured a few "USD grade A large" eggs, and they where about 1.75". This will require a 2" barrel, meaning that you'll be shooting these things saboted.

Sorry to spoil your good idea but ive shot eggs out of my 1 1/2" barrel before. You said you already built it but I would suggest a smaller chamber. Wadding is needed so it doesnt break not because it doesnt fit. I would of suggested a 1 1/2" barrel also so you dont have to waste money on those huge eggs. Did you have a problem with eggs breaking? When I did it about have off them would explode in the barrel before they had a chance to leave the barrel. I never tried boiling them though that seems like a good idea.

"I would suggest a smaller chamber"
Waaa?! The only reason I could think of to do that is to make it quiet, but that'd be at the expense of power. Only "cools" who are interested in using said launcher on their little vandalism escapades would do something like that! (or people with neibors who complain alot)

As to wadding, I'm personaly not seeing how it's going to protect this ammo from much... what is tissue paper going to do against 40 PSI of compressed gas? I can see it being of use paintballs and burst disks, however, because of friction with the walls and "disk slap" [for lack of an existing term... like piston slap, but with the disk of material hitting the projectile and smashing it].

I didnt quite mean for it to be used for "vandalism escapades"(for some reason that sounds cool 8) ) but what I meant is if you were to egg with it you wouldnt wipe out what ever your shooting (hence the smaller chamber). Now that I actually think about it "egging" with a cannon would be a very bad idea and worthless considering the time spent to reload when you could just through them.

Ya I dont really know how to explain it but it does something. Because when I would use a egg that fit the barrel it would "explode" before it reached the end of the barrel but, when I used wadding and a looser fitting egg it would work over half of the time. It might be that tissue with air around it might act as a cushion from the explosion. It might also be that the wadding prevents the egg from "tumbling" in the barrel which would cause the egg to crack when it hit the wall of barrel.

"tumbling"
Yeah, that's the only thing that really makes scence - it's padding it from the barrel. The pressure rise is to probably too slow and small to crack the egg, and the timescale is too short to worry about scorching it... not to mention the lack of airflow over it.

You could put a piece of rubber or something before the egg that would protect the egg and it would provide enough burst so there is no loose space between the egg and the barrel.

And wad(maybe it's spelled with a double D, man I love double D-s  ) it so it doesn't break like the guys said.

Hmmm.. press an egg with you finger puttin g one finger in the top and the other down ( X) my inglish sux ! ) it can resist alot

Yes, the egg shape resists crushing (or more tecnicaly, compression loads) quite well. Leads me to think that maybe a sabot with a egg-end-shaped depression would work well. I'v made such things before (a golfball sabot, acctualy), and it's not too hard. I used a cut-off disk in a dremmle, and it worked pretty well.

As to your english:
At least I know what you are talking about.
If I understood correctly, you have an excuse... unlike some native speakers who.. well, I'm going to cut myself off here. No need for a rant.

I'm assuming that was a PM?
If so, it was origionaly worthless, but has developed into a discussion of launching eggs. It's more usefull than many topics here, so it should probably stay.
