I would like to build a noise maker to ward off deer similar to the one on this page with a timer on it.

The one in the link is propane but I am open to any suggestions.

Since I don't own a helicopter or crop duster to spray over the woods behind my house another option might be to make a large canon capable of launching a mixture of eggs, hot pepper and garlic far into the woods and surrounding area.

I'm open to ideas guys.

I just want to get rid of the deer because there's too many hunters in the woods behind my back yard and the police won't do anything about it because it's outside the city limits.
I expect to see a bullet fly through my window and right into my chest any minute now.

Wow... sounds like you have a problem...

Well on how to build the cannon look HERE You will see a lot of how-to's on there. If you look at the how to on propane injection it is a very good writeup. There is also a calculator for setting up the propane on there. As far as the timer... I can't really help you there, I guess it is a timer with a gas valve on it, I am assuming Mcmaster Carr sells something that you would be able to use.

And as far as launching a mixture, look at the pneumatic cannons, they use compressed air from a shop compressor to fire things. You could make a payload shell (kinda how a shotgun shell works) and put your mixture in there for "crop dusting"

Hope this helps... you should be able to build it a lot cheaper than $350 (holy!! SH.....)

Maybe I am a bit paranoid but it's hard to send your kids out to play when the guys living only about a quarter mile away are shooting deer rifles all day.

Here's another propane noise maker that I have found.

With this one you can vary the fire rate anywhere from 30 seconds to 20 minutes.
Any idea how they are doing this?

Oh.. and while I was there I ran across this crazy thing:

DESMAN LASER ($7,700 each)
Drive birds away and keep them away with the Desman. This patented laser gun projects a beam up to 1.5 miles without any damage to the environment or the birds. The birds are startled by the strong contrast between the ambient light and the red beam. It is most effective in low light conditions such as dawn and dusk. Main advantages: wide operating range, simple to use, and birds do not habituate to the laser beam.

Desman...
My goodnes... 7,700$?
That'd be an acceptable price for a several watt laser with a power supply... but that's not one of them, as you can tell from both the movies and the fact you don't need a license. (Which I think you need for a class 4 optical laser)

Now, I would like a pulse laser with a discharge of at least 1-2 J and a relitivly small apature. I'm thinking it'd most practical with a CO2 laser, which has the added benifit of not blinding me with the flash when I shoot.

Well until I can figure out how to make an automatic noise canon I guess I'm going to try some Bird Bangers and Screamer Sirens

by the way,
Is there a section on pneumatic cannons in the FAQ?
I don't see it.
