Give Our Sponsors Classified Section???

Thunderlord got this going:
I sort of miss the "classified" section.
I never ordered anything from it, but there was some neat stuff there.
Any chance of bringing it back but with pre-paid ads?
I add this:
To much liability for PCGUY/Spudfiles, but as a rolling type/place to put classified sponsor's "deals" or "close out" or "overstock" type adds is a pretty good idea I think. The sponsor's could place them and change them at will. Give a limit of like 10 at any given time.

How about a classified section where a percentage goes to Spudfiles?
We as members get a place to sell stuff where we know without a doubt, we'll get interested buyers, and the site prospers as well.
Might be enough of a difference to upgrade the server situation????
Why would PCGUY be in any different position than the local paper selling classified ads to someone selling an airgun?
It just needs to be worth the trouble.

I'd love to see the classifieds back up, but I wouldn't be using it very often. I think it should be put back up with some careful disclaimers so we can all share the section.

This idea sounds good. I as well wouldn't use it often.

I think there was a sticky in that sub forum asking you donate 10% of the sale. The thing is since the money never went through PCGUY it was based on the trust system which I believe may have been part of the reason it was taken down, too much risk for such little income.
Now if we had our own little ebay system going here, where you had to pay to post (hehe we could have a p2p network

). Now the amount could be decided six ways from sunday...

Actually, no income. I don't think a single person took out any percentage for SpudFiles. It would be possible to setup a section a bit differently where it would basically force a fee, but there isn't much classifieds activity to start with.

Mostly it's just people selling lengths of pipe and various pipe fittings and other spudgun components, as long as they don't compete with what one of the Spudfiles sponsor sells, it's probably alright to just make a topic in the General spud-related forum advertising it's for sale.
Since sgort87 sells Piston Valves on his site, no one will be able to sell those of, which really only leaves cannons, which will never be allowed to be sold through the Spudfiles forum, regardless of a sponsor sells cannons or not.
Though you'd have to check with PCGUY if you want to sell components like pipe and fittings, as described above, on the forum.

Perhaps allow people to simply paste links to sites? They could all be in one place and people could discuss about the sites and talk about the stuff they sell. This would eliminate any liability of spudfiles.

@MrCrowley
There is still the possibility of a person selling other cannon components. For example, a person could have a number of propane meters or wooden grips and sell those. People would find other products to sell other than cannons and piston valves.
Besides, a little competition never hurt anyone

Propane meters and grips are sold by UltimateSpudgun.com and I think sgort87 may even sell grips.
I'm sure there are other items, just not those.

Tell that to the person who's
paying to advertise their products on this site.

Just because they're paying to advertise, doesn't mean they should monopolise the entire market. Perhaps if someone is commercially selling and undercutting then yeah they should be paying, but if it's just a personal one-off add I see no reason that the competition would be a bad thing.
Otherwise I think it's a great idea to bring it back, although I think it would be good to suggest a donation to spudfiles quite clearly.

With BCARMS, I believe the contract specified that no competition could be sold through the then, classified section. I'd think a similar contract has also been signed by the new sponsors. If it's not part of their advertising contract, then I don't see any harm in members selling similar items as them on the forum if allowed.

The classifieds is a great section for odds and ends. Things like Asco valves and rare materials. I remember some people would pitch in together to buy a bulk number of things in an eBay auction then split it up. That can still be useful.
I don't see a problem with it unless someone is repeatedly selling for profit. I think that's really the bottom line. Give it a try. Bring it back and if it looks bad, we can pull it back off. I think it'll be great for the spud gun economy.

Well this certainly turned into the same thing as it was before and I must say I'm against having the classified back as it was before. For a few reasons, 1) it was a nightmare from the moderating stand point because only 2 members followed the listing rules. 2) it was a waste of space and didn't pay off.
I would like to see a section for the sponsors to place revolving adds for Spudfiles members to have on site access, weekly deals, clearance specials and such.
Definitely not the classifieds like we had before. They where removed for a reason.

Thanks for moving my reply, and quoting me jrrdw!
It's cool to see others were thinking similarly!
Sometimes I'm just ranting like an... But I was serious about this one.
I remember an add for pressure washer handles and some cool chrome regulators. (wish I had ordered them...)
It's unfortunate people abused the old classifieds.
Maybe there could be a new pre-paid format.
IMO I don't see why advertising the same products would be bad since ads are first come -first -serve, competition seems good (as someone else mentioned) IMO.
Either way I look forward to a new classifieds but in a new format.
