I was sitting hear at about midnight last night browsing for some ideas for my next creation. I came across a guy who had posted some ideas about self contained ammo that would combine the air source and projectile into one "system". It was definitely a good idea, but I saw a cupple of flaws that I thought that I could improve on.
His plans called for a piston actuated chamber, set up in a "blasting cap" fashion. The flaws that i saw immediately were the use of epoxy and springs.
He used epoxy for both the pistons and the plugs at each end of the chamber. I wouldn't say it was a bad idea, but that there was a much more simple and less messy alternative. I would have used PVC fittings for the plugs, as well as for the pistons. Im sure there is a forum discussion on said topics so I will not go into further details here.
As for the springs, I believe that by simply making one piston (the "Blasting Cap" side) slightly larger than the other, this would eliminate the need for springs all together.

I don't think JSM ( the guy your talking about ) has ever made a gun that doesnt use epoxy
your idea is good although it looks a little complex ( mabye becuase i just woke up ) and im sure it would work well.

That looks a bit complex, but feasible. I actually came up with an idea a while back that was much much less complex. I should pursue it further sometime.

If this is what you were referring to, I don't see where the springs come into it?
Your design works in *precisely* the same way as the Brocock Air Cartridge System.

The disadvantage of this design is the fact that you need a substantial firing pin that will strike the central component with enough force to open it quickly, the power of the shot being directly related to the power of the firing pin.

Of course the main reason why JSR uses epoxy is because he's building in miniature, and you can't get fittings that small.
