No, that was only a small reason. The main reason was because Joel sold SpudTech, but it had closed a little while before that.

Long story short...

-Site kept getting hacked, over and over and over again. Particularity the forum. Snitz (the software the spudtech forums ran) is plagued by security holes causing many of the problems. Joel would have had to pay someone a fairly good amount of money to fix everything.

-The forum came to a point where it could not be dealt with anymore, nor did Joel want to deal with it anymore. The forums at that point were shut down.

-I spoke with Joel on the phone, we talked and decided that since the forum contained so much good information, that I could take it over.

-Lots of thought here... either I could have kept it a separate forum running a different forum software, I could have integrated all of those posts into SpudFiles, or I could do as it is now and keep it as a locked up archive.

Making it a separate forum would be pointless since I already owned SpudFiles and the SpudFiles forum was already far more active than the SpudTech forum.

Trying to combine the forum was decided to be a bad idea, no way to sort out posts from SpudTech to fit SpudFiles, plus it would have been a technology nightmare to try to accomplish.

It was hard enough to get it converted over to phpBB, so once converted I made it into a searchable static forum so no past information is lost.

-Then SpudTech was put up for sale... or sometime during all of this.

And here we are today!
Yes, I am the guy that owns & operates SpudFiles (along with our extremely helpful moderators).
