On the topic of GGDT improvements.... Not really. I was, however, probably 60% through writing a package I was loosely calling HGDT (Hybrid Gun....) when I took a break from the scene back in Nov '06. Basically I got to a particular piece of programming logic and the answer didn't immediately pop into my mind in an algorithm form (something I normally have a knack for). I set it aside to let my thoughts organize themselves and then.... the ball got dropped.MrCrowley wrote:Yeah it is great to see you on spudfiles, do you have any thoughts on upgrading GGDT, or maybe making a patch to fix any bugs or add anything?
Still have the code as written. Need to dust it off.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a full scale chamber test.
29" pipe (BTW, it's nominally "30 inch pipe" but the ID is 29 if you measure it).
20' long.
Flanged at both ends.
Fully instrumented, blah blah blah.
It shouldn't take much to set it up but I should be able to learn a LOT about the combustion dynamics. And when the test is over? It simply becomes one of the main gun's chamber legs.
BTW, visited the steel yard today. I've got all the pipes, elbows, adapters, etc. in stock. The ONLY thing I'm missing is ONE 30" end cap.
Oh, and I also woke up and realized I've got a 500 gallon (or something like that) propane tank just lying around that I can push into service as the metering pipe for the air.

Holy crap, I thought I'd never see an update on this one! Good to hear from you again David!
By the way, did the pictures of the other cannon get released? I'm referring to the "My load is hotter than your load" gun.

My bet is that at a two times mix you will have great luck avoiding ddt.
Whilst the chambers are quite large the fatness to length ratio seems acceptable. I really would love to see this built, it would be a major milestone for hybrids and spudding in general.
"Hey, want to watch me launch a Wombat shotty load"?
"Hell ya bra datta be awesome"

America, the greatest gangster of all time. With 200 million odd foot soldiers at it's whim and call.

No, not yet.SpudMonster wrote:By the way, did the pictures of the other cannon get released? I'm referring to the "My load is hotter than your load" gun.
No reason why they shouldn't be other than red tape. There's an entire webpage that's been authored that is just awaiting the public release process.
Unfortunately, that process isn't often a priorty for us. We have "paying work" to do so if anything comes up, the PR stuff gets dropped.
Agree!Carlman wrote:If this cannon is built than it WILL be the biggest on this site![]()
I cannot offer any help as i know very little when it comes to hybrids but that thing is massive. Before reading anything i thought it was a 3 way ball valve pneumatic and like 5' long![]()
19" bore![]()
flatbed

Thats one hell of a cannon!

So....Which planet will you be aiming for first?
I will take my hat off to you when you get this monster built.

Just did a rough GGDT for the 100mm gun.
With a 20' barrel and 12"x76" chamber, you're looking at between 700-800 mps with a 5 pound projectile @ ~50x.
Think you can do 50? You may have some slight DDT concerns with this gun as well.

thats about 1200000 m/s

Even more amazing: 1,633 * 10[super]12[/super]
edit
nevermind, I just realized that MPS could be m/s aswell instead of miles/s
stupid me...

I'd do something like that myself if I could program straight - I know all the required maths and algorithms to make a similar program. But for now, I'm vastly behind on the Range Calculator, mostly because I'm no good with programming the macros it needs.MrCrowley wrote:Yeah it is great to see you on spudfiles, do you have any thoughts on upgrading GGDT, or maybe making a patch to fix any bugs or add anything?
Gah.
@Psycix: Actually, mps is a perfectly accepted shorthand for metres per second - just like fps is accepted for feet per second.
It's exceptionally rare indeed to see mps used for miles per second.
@_Fnord: I has 1,000 posts now.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

I remember this idea from spudtech, it would be great if it would actually get built - and of course, I'd expect we'd be notified of any informal launchers, there's a lot you can fir in that calibre. I mean, to hell with shooting at milk jugs, you could make a milk jug buckshot round

How do you think I feel_Fnord wrote:god... I just realized I have nearly 1000 posts here. I feel really lame.

Oh, having re-read the old thread in the archives (thanks for the link) and the new one thing may sound redundant but isn't....
In the old thread I said I had the trailer; that there was an old hulk rotting in a field that I was laying claim to.
In this thread I say I have the trailer....
....but it's a different trailer. The trailer I now possess was (a) procured especially for this project and (b) is in magnificent condition.
