True, being underwater would help this, I just may be visiting my neighbors pool...

By leaving the back and open, do you mean a sort of threaded plug that can be removd for breach loading? For this model, since these spears are so long, muzzle loading is the best bet for me.

The line I'm using now is just regular hardware store nylon twine. I use a bowline knot with a slip loop which I pass through 2 holes in the back of the spear (just before the endcap) then put the slip loop over and around the end with the cap. Haven't had trouble yet with anything binding, and Since the line is so heavy, it keeps whatever I shoot, perfectly straight.

I once shot a steel flechette with a line on a reel behind it, but the unraveling made it loose all stability and terribly inacurate.

My projectile was very light though, i guess that doesn't happen with your spears ?

Edit: Oh so that was what that PM was for... well I'm terribly sorry for kicking up this dead topic. I'm actually quite supprised this actualy happened as I tend to mostly read through the Recent Topics box.
I'll be more careful next time, and thankyou blind909 for putting me back on the right track before I start doing all sorts of mischief on this forum.
Oh dear, I even got spudbucks for the edit, I'm terribly sorry for that too, as I was not of course trying to be a post whore... :)

I think you'll find that al-xg was a member of this forum before you and is well versed in forum etiquette, besides he didn't kick the topic up with a "d0000d th@ t0ta11y r0xx0rz!!!1!!!1!! send me plans pls k thx" post, but a valid question that could be of interest to others ;)

For lazy people like me who hate walking out and retrieving their ammo, the reel and line system incorporated in your cannon is a dream come true. Great Job!

Well thanks for the compliments, but the Intimidator is no more. It was confiscated last night at 11:25 by Wildlife and Fisheries. It is nowhere near legal to even posses something like this out on the water. I was ticked for "taking/possessing game fish illegally."

Moral of the story. Read the rules before you bring your creations out near the water.

Thats really stupid in my opinion.

Fishing is fishing. We catch and eat them, and i think that anyway we catch them is fine.

Whats next "Catching fish illegally by hand"?

No more to you atleast. Sounds like they probably have a new "toy".
May even reverse engineer it.
(You'll see it in a nature documentary and go D*MN!!!)

I might of told 'em "You'll get my fish gun when you pry it from my cold dead Fishy hands... [Expletives]!!!"

Seriously though, Cool they didn't give you worse charges. :( 8)

Well they can (and frequently do) take boats, trucks, decoys and even dogs. Once the agents (or whatever you want to call 'em) figured out we weren't bad guys, they loosened up a bit. It was "yessir" and "nossir" for about 2 hours. It could have been a lot worse.

I hope others can learn from my mistake. Te rules aren't hard to find, you just have to read 'em.

Well there has to be some reason for it. What it is, I don't know. Its like froggin. You can catch them and gigg them, but you can't shoot them. Theres more rules than you can magine when it comes to hunting and fishing. You woldn't believe the stipulations on duck hunting...

i got snatched for trying to shoot a fish with a shotgun once.

i also got it :)

another more amazing fishing story was one of my fathers friends. it goes like this:
they where bored and decided to try out some old dynamite. they took a little rowing boat and went out to sea a night a few years ago. they dropped the 25kg of dynamite they had on the sea bottom 990foot under them and blew it up. the boat got thrown a good 10feet in the air and they landed safely. they sat there waiting for the fish to come up. they waited for about ten minutes and they saw a big fish floating up. they got close to it and it swam again. after 30 minutes it started to get attention from the shore so they decided to get in again without any fish. so they started to row.. the strange thing is that the boat didn't budge. there was so freakin much fish there that they couldn't row in. they filled the boat until it was about to sink and finally got to the land again. the day after they sold fish on the street for 0.0001$ a kg on the street.
it got on the news because there was like a ton of fish on the shore :D

That's a funny fishing story spudfarm.
I heard the fish and game dept. (or whatever) near where I live use a rod like a telescoping fiberglass painting rod, and they attach a stungun to the end. Then they just touch the surface(?) of the water with it.
Supposedly, when the fish float up they're only stunned too, so they can count how many there are of different types and net a few to put tags on then release them back. Interesting.
Seems more practical and the stun-gun fits in a pocket or belt.

Not sure if it's true or if the current effects aluminum boat passengers.

BTW Wondered if you ever got that boat fixed Biggsauce? 8)
