Simple question: could I power a vortex BBMG with a shop vac?

i think so..... but the speed of the BBs would suck.
also, you might overheat the shop vac motor.

If you think about the velocity of the air coming out of some of those shop vacs. and given that you compress the air flow down to a BB sized air stream I wouldn't be surprised if it works really well.

Good point. What model shop vac are you going to use?

you would also need to make an adapter to go from a shop vac hose to quick connector size hose/connector.

The only problem is shop vacs are pretty big unless you get one of those small hand ones, like dust busters. I would say it would work pretty well, I might try to make a cloud bbmg with that concept.

You could get even better preformance with a leaf blower.
their output is like 200 MPH with a 2" outlet

leaf blowers are also easier to carry around.

My 6.5 HP shop-vac is a beast... its got 175 MPH output out of a 1.5"-2" outlet

Maybe not QUITE as good as a leaf blower... but its no slouch

just tested on my leafblower, it does NOT work!

my leaf blower is powerful, but with the BBMG attached it had the preformance of a asthmatic smoker's lung.

Mine is like 10 gallon, and it is LOUD. The output is 1.5" or 2" but I can reduce it down to size. I have the BBMG all put together and it has kind of a vortex block but not really.

mine is a cloud. I took a 2" cap and put ducttape around the outside and put that into the outlet of the leafblower. i inserted a hose fitting, and ran a 3.5 foot 3/8" hose from the adapter to the BBMG.

That's an easy way to do it. I'll probably use that thanks. :D Except with maybe a fatter and longer hose.

Guys, a Vortex/Cloud BBMG works off the principal of pulling a venturi. this happens becasue the air going in is slightly less than can leave via the outlet. Of you are forceing air in with a leaf blower, this wont happen. I have a 2 barreled BBMG, that uses a 1/4" ball valve as the air inlet. if I open it all the way up, proformance sucks, but when I hit the sweet spot at about 3/5th open, the thing just rips.
