i dont think you can make anything that powerful with a sprinkler valve, but i wouldnt be surprised if my golfball cannon was powerful enough to kill or seriously hurt some one, obviously a piston valve and large bore launcher

Don't fool yourself, humans are actually pretty frail when you look at it.

I wouldn't write off anything other than "minis" as having the potential to be fatal. Evidence suggests that as little as about 4 Joules can be fatal, if it hits a person in the wrong way. It's unlikely to be fatal (and especially not instantly fatal), but it can kill.

Bear that in mind whenever you pick up a cannon.

However, it would take a fairly substantial sized spudgun (with the right projectile) to have the energy and penetration to be reliably lethal.
You cannot be sure either way whether a hit on a person will be fatal or safe.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

I have no doubt that a close range head shot from a reasonably sized sprinkler valved marble gun operating at ordinary compressor pressures can easily be fatal, but such discussion is bordering on breaking forum rules so it should end here.

In a nutshell, yes they can be lethal, so use them responsibly!

I donn't think there are quiet ones... you could put lots of foam around yours but that would probably cause overheating and won't be very effective...

after I've seen this video (skip first 13 minutes... and have a look at 17:40 too  ) I thought that you could probably cut a fridge compressor case open and remove the compressor itself... then attach it directly to a small gas engine for model planes...

Wouldn't you want the quiet one on the _sniper_ and the loud one on the _cannon_ ?

Let's say paintball, since that's about the diameter he built(ignore the home defense crap and felon comments) he wants good range, so a longer barrel, and to be unnoticed, so a quiet pump.

I had pretty good success with high pressure(200psi) and small tank(~3-4cu in.) on a 3/4" 5ft barrel (20psi at the muzzle for anybody doing the math,) and have considered hand pumping it to see what pressure I get. Definite stealth.

Steel chamber, if you're wondering, though I want to redo with copper(easier to seal with solder than seal with threads.)

Smaller pumps tend to be quieter(or at least less audible) and refridgerator compressors are packed in a filled canister, aren't they?

Thanks. It is a direct drive which is why the noise of the gears is missing. I downloaded the owners manual. The duty cycle with my large cannon would provide about 2 shots an hour. :D
