Hey guys, I'm brand enwe to the site and I've been trying to learn as much as possible lately. My plan is to build a cannon exactly like the one in this picture. Image

But instead of using a blowgun to fill the cannon, I am wanting to add a schrader valve, pressure gauge, and ball valve to it. What I am wondering is that if I put a ball valve on it, is it going to damage the quickness by a bunch? If so, how can I incorporate a pressure gauge and schrader valve into it by other means? Below is another picture of what I am wanting the butt of the cannon to look like, in addition to a pressure gauge.

Thanks a ton guys and I cant wait to hear what you've got for me :?:

I don't exactly understand what your getting at? If your talking about using a ball valve to relieve the pilot then yes it will work just fine... welcome to the forums :D

The picture on top is what I am going to base my design off of. What i'm wanting to do is instead of using a blow gun to fill my cannon (like in the very top picture), is to be able to fill the cannon via schraeder valve. I would also like to have a pressure gauge installed as well. But if I installed these, would I have to install some sort of ball valve and just open it when I want to fire?

Basically, I'd like to build the gun in the first photo, but add a schraeder valve and pressure gauge. The bottom photo is what I would like it to look like, but I just dont know how to build it to make it look like that.

Well a ball valve normally has a bigger air output, which would make the valve open faster. People normally use blowguns because they're easier to open by hand. With a schraeder valve is used with a bike bump, when the pump is disconnected from the gun air leaks out just like filling a tire.

You can put the pressure gauge pretty much anywhere, it doesn't matter b/c the pressure will be the same on both sides of the diaphragm. and as for the shraeder valve put it in the back of the cleanout cap or maybe a nipple with a tee coming out of the cleanout cap and the ball valve on one side and a shraeder on the other.

Put a 3 way tee on the back of the cannon in between the ballvalve and the back of the chamber, and tap in the gauge and schauder there.
for the shraeder valve put it in the back of the cleanout cap
Do not use a clean out cap, use a male and female adaptor and an endcap.
Clean out caps are not rated for pressure, and can even fail on combustions.

Yeah, get a threaded plug. Also, dont use bell reducers that are DWV.

Would I still be able to access the chamber if i used an endcap?

Wait...so which should I use? threaded plug, or endcap? Also, would it be alright if what i used wasnt a ball reducer but a reducer that is flat? i'd say about 2 inches tall, but still performs the same task.

Once other thing, would it help me gun perform any better if i used a 1" Rain Bird sprinkler solenoid rather than a 1" ball valve?
