looks very good!

I am currently designing something that would wake up this forum as well :D

What!? That's all I opened this thread for! :D

Just kidding, it's great to see this thing coming together in an operable fashion. Can't wait to see it spitting golfballs...

That was with a more ambitious mix than I'm going to take this one up to (and more final pressure than the pressure sensor can measure...)

Heres a more accurate HGDT of what I'll be shooting for heavy loads:

Don't worry the cards are in play for something to wake this forum up.
With so much pressure, should you be getting more FPS? I see the projectile is smaller than the barrel ID..does that affect the speed? Oh, this thing is looking really damn good by the way.

Heres some more progress to report on tonight... right where i wanted to be :D

Here is the stand in the making... always square up whenever you can! almost everything was Tig tacked and Mig welded.

Image

Here is the pivot assembly - I totally tigged this as I needed to be careful about heat warping the assembly and pinching the uprights against the upper rail frame.

Image

And finally - the Assembled unit!

Up close of the BOSS 30degree unnecessary stuff. Come on... it looks mean right?

I will be fabricating the spark stalk tomorrow and that's about it until I receive my pressure sensor... I'll work out the pneumatics until then though!

Beautiful, but I have one gripe.

I don't want to sound picky but the use of those pipe brackets to hold the barrel seems really out of place - maybe because I can recognise them as off-the-shelf parts - and seem to ruin the whole look. Just my two euro cents.

That looks great! I enjoy seeing your "bigger" projects.

I second JSR pipe mount recommendation. You need a beefier military look!
Similar to your 30 degree barrel mount preference.

Is that an antique Singer Sewing machine project I see in the backround?
I recognize what looks like the threadle and the outer frame.

I'm guessing the brackets aren't final, wouldn't they stop the recoiling ?

Lol!

For the sake of getting this project done I'm using the brackets... should I paint them black for you guys?

They have the added side effect of being able to incorporate ANY 3" chamber X 1.5" barrel design in the future (i.e. a sch80 retrofit for 50X shots)

I kinda liked them though :?

I may add another one for the barrel side in the middle of the two there now.

Dewey - yes that's the base to a singer. I have a complete one at home - we just use that as a base to a table.

The only thing stopping recoil in this design is the mass of the system - which should be enough.

Man everyones hatin on ma' brackets! dey even da delux cush-clamp brand yo!

::EDIT::

 BTW just had a eureka moment for a simple designed elevation adjustment mechanism... cost just went from $30 and waiting 2 days to $5 and immediate fabrication :D

I'm picking up all the goodies (electronics/pnuematics) so hopefully I can start laying them out and fabbing up the faceplate of of some sheet S/S i have.

I may be making a APFSDS or two since I have alot of sheilding gas left in my tanks!

Got the first coat of black paint on the stand and it looks 76% meaner now :drunken:

End MC :sign4:

::EDIT squared::

Welded up the elevation adjustment tonight and it works great! Its about 5" in front of the pivot point on the frame and offers adjustment from about 35degrees up down to about 5-10 degrees below horizontal (downhill shots, shots into water... etc) It works by threading a piece of 5/8"-11 all-thread in and out of a cylinder - very similar to a gas spring except the shaft is aloud to spin freely at the top eyelet. saved me $30 for a sub-par turnbuckle with similar adjustment stroke (actually 1" less!).

I'm sanding the 1st coat now because it didn't quite come out as good as i'd like (its just a gun... right? ) so I'll have a shot of the gun assembled and painted up tomorrow night.

Here are some pics of the elevation adjustment:

This elevation system is another good example of using a CAD program to optimize a design before setting foot on the shop floor :)

I like progress... :D

I dont feel like updating the last post for the 4/5th time - so here is the gun 90% built up now. Need to finish the spark stalk and weld on the union.

It's coming out pretty nicely and there is no slop in any of the pivots sans any bushings which is pretty nice!

Looking great (aspart from those brackets ;))

Will the wheels be removed for firing, sPzB 41style?

Image

... or will the launcher be allowed to recoil on its wheels too?

Wheels will be left on, providing space age recoil absorbing technology

what but the rails under the chamber, are you using them for recoil absorbing?

They are there so I can loosen the union and simply slide the chamber back to put a new burst disc in, and possibly breach load. They were left over from the original plan of recoil absorption so i didn't want them to go to waste

Looking great! Yeah, people here seem to have a thing with easy bracketry. I got similar flak when I made my cannon. I planned on using a jubilee clip to hold support the barrel and they convinced me to go a bit further, and I did. I am glad I did, but if you have a future golden project in mind and just want to finish this one, then fair enough. Simply finishing a project can be a massive pain in the you know what, so getting it done is most important.
