Another mini hybrid (R.I.P)

Harness the power of precision mixtures of pressurized flammable vapor. Safety first! These are advanced potato guns - not for the beginner.

I want to build a piston hybrid, so to get some experience with construction and fueling, I made a small hybrid. Inspired by JSR's hybrids of course :D

I fuel it with a syringe. Uses 1,8 ML of butane per mix number.

It's a hybrid, and I like hybrids so... good job! :D

By the way, you haven't told us about calibre and projectiles? If you did, I missed it.

It's ugly as a turd, but I think i'll make something better when the schools start again.

Probably will be a pistol or something like that..

@ JSR:

Calibre is 10 mm. I'm shooting 5 gram pieces of steel, the barrel is 40 centimeters long.
HGDT says the velocity is around 150 m/s, wich I find pretty nice :)

Very well drawn I have to say :)

The fact that you used "blew up" and ":D" in the same sentence means that you are now a true builder of epoxy based hybrids, congratulations!

It gave a very nice bang, luckily I was wearing ear protection

Thanks for both compliments :D

I'm going to reconstruct the thing with some screws through the chamber side into the back plug. Should help with containing pressure.

Update:

Fixed the thing. I inserted some screws, so it will either have to break the screws or rip the tube to launch the back plug.

Now the front is the weakest part....

I think i'm ordering 400 ml's of epoxy in a while :)

By the way, if you turn up the volume after the bang in the video, you can hear the neighbour kids yelling :D luckily we have nice neigbours, so I won't have to expect police coming to my house....

Might as well add some screws while you're at it, learn from others' mistakes ;)

The back plug might have blown out because I forgot the epoxy while I inserted it  :D

I use 1-hour epoxy, so i'm ready for some testing. I don't think sad troll and Y U No guy will survive. :)

That's what.... he said? Hmmm...

 :D

How did it hold pressure then? or is there an o-ring somewhere?

1 hour epoxy needs at least 3 hours to be fully cured ;)

It had over 12 hours of curing, don't worry :D
jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:How did it hold pressure then? or is there an o-ring somewhere?
I was wondering why it was leaking so badly. I closed all the leaks with epoxy, and it held pressure just fine. Now I don't have a single leak at the first try, so it should be better.
Also made the spark gap smaller, it's 0,3 mm now.

I ran a GGDT calculation for an 8x shot.

This shot went through the mp4 player, the 7 cm of newspapers, and almost through the one inch piece of plywood, with an energy of about 177 joules :)

More impressive than I tought :)

I did some extra calculations, and I discovered I used twice as much fuel as I should have. I think this is why I found the power a bit sloppy.

Another vid:

I also bought a new barrel. The previous one had a 10 mm bore, and was 40 cm long. The new one has a 11 mm bore, and is 100 cm long.

LOL @ the mp3 player, that would have killed in high speed!

My mini was just 5.5mm/6mm bore, as you have twice that you can enjoy similarly high muzzle energies without necessarily going right up to 28 mix.

I take it the bug has been caught and we will be seeing more?

Feel free to publish them for scrutiny ;)
