Afternoon all.

I have been playing with a technique in CAMBAM called Island Pocketing, the ability to leave raised "islands" on a machined surface. For simplicity I modelled a Lego brick, nice regular surfaces and it makes a nice desk ornament for the kids when finished.

I also wanted to test out some new long series end mills from McJing Tooling, the one in the video is a 6mm four flute cutter that gives me a 40mm cut and still allows sufficient clearance on the Z axis.

Damn damn damn I accidentally hit the buy bottom and I had to pay it 35 euro wasted.
Edit: I bought the sc3 lathe and sx2 mill. I still have 200 euro left and I'd like to have some decent blade and mill bits (hard enough to cut/mill stainless steel, so can't be HSS), can you show me some examples? Also I think I need a good solid vice for the mill as well...

Look for carbide tools, or tools with carbide inserts.

A mill vice is almost obligatory, and a rotary table is incredibly useful - if you have that for the mill, you almost don't need a lathe!

As to the vices, the first one would be nice especially since your mill column is fixed, or you could just get a tilting vice and rotating vice for now.

I will give you some advice though, if you're certain you're going to be machining for a while, better pull your finger out and buy the good stuff immediately instead of slowly upgrading.

If you get good at it, the tools will pay for themselves in a short time
