UPDATE!
This gun and shooting it has become what seems to be a yearly, to .75 yearly event for me! But it's still fun to shoot every time I get the chance!!
I will have a video coming up - finally got to shoot at a car! SPOILER PHOTO (full car penetration w/ a 45mm round - ohhh yeaa!)
Unfortunately we didn't get to shoot the darts (Still need sabots... Cough ::JSR:: Cough haha jk )
Stay tuned!

Whoah! Moar media!
Any chance of fitting it with a 1" or 1.5" barrel, so we can talk proper projectiles

I do miss the quality chat brain storming sessions haha!SpudBlaster15 wrote:Ah, excellent, I was hoping to see more from this gun at some point. Just need the chat back and it'll be like old times.
I still have dreams of making my 100KJ monster so I can send concrete filled soup cans through cars instead... that will require more time I guess - Patience is a virtue when it comes to making Swiss cheese!
I should have the video up @ some point this week - my main workstation is being neglected as I continue doing drywall work and have everything in my office covered in drop clothes lol.

ssssss...
I especially liked the buckshot-on-steroids
I'm guessing those darts will be heading towards the engine block?

Not too far off nowmobile chernobyl wrote:The epitome of a "hybrid", the Utron 45mm CLGG certainly proves that there is a stage at which recoil absorption becomes necessary:
I think as a community we have a while to go before we hit that point

With your ignition, Use multiple gaps down the length of the chamber. you'll achieve a much more even burn with higher velocity and the propagation waves won't be as intense.
Also, if you can find some, (assuming you're using burst discs), look up shear/tear diaphragms/discs, they attach directly to the projectile and sit on a lip on the edge of the chamber/barrel section and they break apart around the diameter so you get a consistent pressure behind the projectile, again, low propagating waves
(I'm aware your gun doesn't reach these pressures )Also, if you can find some, (assuming you're using burst discs), look up shear/tear diaphragms/discs, they attach directly to the projectile and sit on a lip on the edge of the chamber/barrel section and they break apart around the diameter so you get a consistent pressure behind the projectile, again, low propagating waves

My design does indeed have thatindividual wrote:With your ignition, Use multiple gaps down the length of the chamber...
I have a good reason for not going that route (although thorough industry research was done towards using them!).individual wrote:Also, if you can find some, (assuming you're using burst discs), look up shear/tear diaphragms/discs...
Ahh... looks like you've found the 2007 document titled "Combustion Light Gas Gun Technology Demonstration" That DYI and myself have been drooling over for the past few years - as is evident by your design as well haha!
Everything that you mention, as you'll find out as you browse this site more (seeing that you only have 3 posts...) has been discussed ad infinitum amongst the dying breed of high power members on here - but most of it was really discussed in our chat room.
Please shoot me a private message when you have a chance - it seems you are close to a design point where I was when I was developing a very similar device you are! I will be happy to discuss where our community got/was planning to go! Very glad to see an active member on here pushing the power envelope... very, very glad!

This cannon is just amazing, loved the footage and the power is unbelievable.
My jaw dropped seeing an iron ball over 200g's penetrate both sides of a cars doors with ease...hot knife through butter.
