Ahh, that makes sense. Next question....

Can the silencer be made in such a way as to be removed? What I was thinking is say 3 inch pipe with 3 inch to 1.5 inch reducers that are ground out to slip over the pipe. The barrel will always have ports in it , but the actual silecer can be pulled off when not needed and slipped on when it is needed.

Does it need to be airtight? Do I need Orings or do I need to glue it on?

And, since I happen to have DWV laying around from my bathroom redo this summer (at least enough for 3 or 4 full silencers like I described) can I use that for silencer material, otherwise it is just going to waste?

Why not, as long as...

The point of a silencer is to reduce air pressure before it escapes through the muzzle, so any air leakage other than the muzzle is going to proprtionally reduce the silencer's effectiveness. it's the same reason we don't poke holes one the outside of the can ;)

I'm comfortable using DWV for silencers, I've made them out of the stuff for 400 psi pneumatics (albeit more than ten times larger than the chamber volume) and never had any sort of failure.
