Ive got an old fridge sitting around- ive had wet dreams of getting out the compressor. is there any conventional way of doing this legally and not screwing the ozone layer?

Its a bummer that your compressors dont work, but yeah, 30 bucks is a sweet deal. buying them means you dont have to release freon into the air (not exactly legal).

possibly their starter circuits broke down - but forget about reparing that - ussualy it costs as much as a fridge compressor itself

well it's not helping the ozone layer (however AFAIK newer fridges don't use freon anymore). on the other hand, if you leave it outside and let it rust the freon might leak anyway

I reckon the circuit break has crapped itself in both. Would be the most practical reason :?

That's a really nice gesture mate, thanks alot. I'd rather you keep it yaself even if the postage was cheap just so I could see you make a 500+psi monster of a gun :D

You could hook both compressor's up to eachother in a daisy chain to fill a shit load faster :D. Would be a first for spudfiles.

Unfortunate about your compressors Mitch. :(

A suggestion though, the appliance dealers in my area take away the old stuff, and have a collection going.

Once a month, they have an HVAC guy come and drain them so that they can be disposed of.

A box of barley pop might get a guy some compressors. :D

Have anything similar in your area?

There is a tip near me that is always throwing crap out like that, I'll have to duck down and have a look! :D

When do you plan on getting yourself a compressor mate?

Just as soon as I find a suitable pressure tank. :)

Something like 4"dia. by 12-18" long. Should give me 20-30 full power shots with the copper gun, and weigh ~ 5-6 pounds with regulator, valves etc.

I think I'll check ebay for big co2 tanks and an adapter to NPT.

Mitchza89 > The reason that your compressors wont start can be that the thermostat(?) turns the compressor on in the fridge. I use a compressor from a fridge and i had to jump some wires to make it start. anyways, dont scrap it just yet, if you upload some pictures i might be able to help you if your problem is the same as i had :)
And a word of caution, I would seriously recommend a bleed valve on this kind of rig, as it is not your average 8-10bar output you get from this.

I just found a supply of 1800psi rated pressure cylinders. :D

CO2 fire extinguishers. Called the local fire safety people, they throw them away.

I can have them for nothing, they even have NPT threads on them. (this according to the guy I talked to)

Picking them up tomorrow. :D

Thanks alot for that Hyldgaard, I'll see what I can do. Is there a way I can just totally take out the compressor, rip out all the wires and re-hook it up again in a more simple way?
