in a real firearm, how does the magazine hold the shells when when you push them in?

Thier is lips on the mags that hold them in an when the bolt moves forward it pushes the cartrige forward into the chamber.

As above, the movement of the cartridges is horizontal both in loading and being stripped from the mag.
