In warmer climes in the US, PVC is literally dirt cheap. Even larger bore pressure rated pipe is very reasonable. Last year, I bought a 20' section of 4" pressure rated sched 40 for $35 at the local commercial pipe dealer....about $1.50/ft. I think we have varied local supply issues. Both are obviously very usable. The guys in Europe don't have it nearly as good....thus the preponderance of metal cannons there.
