Is it true that you can use a sparkler or those flashing strobe fireworks as fuse to ignite thermite? Can it really work?


Can't you use those chunk of rust from very very old pipes/tin roof/metals thats lying around,Just scrape of the chunk of rust then put them in a ball mill then turn it into powder.Can't you use it just like this, as it is?

Alright, while we are on the general topic of rust, I have a question.
I made an electrolysis machine a while back, and had it producing rust. After about 3 days, I had many layers of red, green, and black rust sitting in the bottom of the jar. How the hell did that happen? I knew different types of iron oxide exsisted, but I thought you could only produce one from electrolysis.

they could of been dirty or perhaps impuritys within the metal itself? idk lol...some of it could of been oxidized more beforehand or been oxidized and stuck under non oxidized parts and get further osidized? yes? no? mabey so lol?

i hate to post this link because its not exactly what you wnat to make, but hey its the only effective, and semi-safe, type of homemade rocket engine i have found online

earlier you were saying that ur cuz had made thermite before....were you talking about me? we made kno3 + sucrose mixtures, but i dont evan remember if we did that together...any way if you want to make a rocket engine go with the link.

What you have here, is more than one metal. Your nails were probably coated with a different metal, or they were, as said above "impure". What that basically means is that they were a cheap metal alloy, as most nails are, and were steel that was mixed, with cheap metals. I am guessing that the extra green color is aluminum.

Ehh, you might want to put it more towards the middle or top then, because due to the low thrust it is likely to create, and a greater chance of it ruining the nozzle for the rest of the fuel. That way, you would get an awesome stream behind it, just before its report; if you were going to include one that is.

hey was jus curious if anyone knew (sorry to change that topic quick zeig) obviously marbles would get chewed up if you were grinding aluminium to make it finer, would like fishing weights work? you know the robin egg sized ones?

For Al powder, you need something like hardened steel bearings. Lead won't cut it. You also need to put something like mineral oil in there with it, so it doesn't explode from the rapid oxidization once it is opened.

Well, the thing is, I wasnt using nails. I had iron rod that I believe was part of a fire poker. I wish I could give you a picture of the rust, but I set the jar out to dry and a squirrel knocked it over
I wanted to kill that squirrel.

Oh. Yeah, I totally agree with you, they charge wayyyyy too much for simple things like that. Although, they do sell uranium, which is cool. (I don't know what I would ever do with it anyway)
