Size of silencer in relation to "gun"

Man, I tried what you said to do with the spacers but it was too difficult to install, the aluminum kept on slipping around the side of the baffles. It was very irritating.

SO I kept it simple but I will make funnel baffles in the future.

Well, I tried to make a video but I ran out of gas and my camera made an error with the video I did manage to take and I couldn't use it I am going to the field today and I will make a video.

I ruined one the paintjob yesterday as well, I airbrushed a nice navy black on and then when I applied the clear coat it ruined it! all the paint when wrinkly So then I decided I would make a tough fabric cover. I used contact adhesive to bond camo fabric onto the silencer then I applied a clear coat of paint for protection and to seal it.

Check out the pics, I think it turned out really well.

That isn't and issue.

Ok I make a video but for some reason it is difficult to hear the difference in sound between the two shots. I think it might have been the camera position You can hear the difference though.

Let me tell you the silencer is definitely effective. You can hear a big difference when you shoot. I am still going to experiment with different baffles and the #of them.

Jack, why do they put springs in some silencer as spacers? I could make some springs for this purpose.

Definitely an improvement, though i'm familiar with the difficulty of expressing the difference on video, it's one of those "you have to be there" things.

The propellant gas expends energy to move the springs by pushing on the baffles, theoretically it increases silencer efficiency.

I will buy some piano wire and make some of my own springs for spacers then I will still experiment though. I need to make better spacers first thing, I don't think the ones I am using are adding to the performance.

You sure have a hard time hearing this at more than 15 meters away, and that is with no mask and with a clear line of sight.

The difference is more audible in this one, certainly takes the edge off the noise and it seems that most of it seems to be coming from the hammer. shame about the noisy reloading mechanism, that appears to make the loudest noise.

You would be very surprised at how quite that actually is. Cocking the gun is actually very quiet, I don't have to worry about it at all.

Here are some pics of the baffles, I have kept it simple for now because it is really effective on the paintball field. It seems that everyones hearing is slightly impared because of the paintball masks. I asked the people I played against and they said they didn't hear it unless they were closer than ~10 meters and were specifically listening out for the shot.

Overall I think a great success. Now I just need to see how I can improve on the next one

Yeh, those spacers are not going to be permenant They are just foam tape

Still adequate for a paintball gun though it seems - have you tried to see how different it sounds with different lengths of spacers instead of having all the chambers the same length?

How much room is there between a paintball and the inside of those baffles? As in, how tight is the fit for a paintball?

EDIT: Since the idea is to reduce the pressure, could you build a silencer just like that one, then drill some holes in the outside of it, then take, say, a balloon and cut it to fit over the outside of the silencer, sealing the edges. That way when the projectile was fired, the balloon would expand. I realize this sounds idiotic, but would it work?

There is about 5mm of space between the paintball and silencer, 2,5mm each side. There needs to be a fair amount of room or else the paintballs will be hitting the silencer when they stray slightly out of trajectory. I may make baffles that have a smaller inner diameter.

Jack, I arranged the baffles so there is more of them closer to the barrel. In all there are 20 spacers, so the first 5 baffles have one spacer, the next baffle has 2, the next 3 baffles have 3 spacers and the last has 4. I think I will make spacers out of pvc and glue them one the baffles. I am not sure if the re-arragnement changed the sound report but it is still pritty damn quiet.

I am sure that may work but then the silencer would not look as good or be as tough.
