Edit: and also about the paint, since you asked, sorry, but flames aren't really my deal, I think you would have been good with just a solid black, it is a little too reminiscent of the ever unpopular tacticool mall ninjas for me, the more unassuming the looks, the more surprise derived from POWER!

The recoil would be that ridiculous.
I'm curious as to how you keep a candle lit, when you are firing that much air... The air alone from my 1/2" cannon at 500psi was enough to blast an aluminum can a good 20', and you have easily 16x as much air there...

As I couldn't find the right word, I went for candle.The thing that should be used is off course a flare or a sparkler.

I used a cut-out for the curved shapes and softened the shapes by multiple layers of...well....paintmist.
From a lot further away..
I went by feel and it turned out nicely.
Add some here and there...
No real method.
The first attempt failed, so I had to sand and clean the barrel again.Second try was just right.
I wish I had a paintbrush.I could do so much better.I could hide a couple of skulls in there...stuff like that.

I'm quite an artist when it comes to drawing and painting you know.

Is that the same as airbrush? My compressor has two different paint spray blowguns.

Darn!...I knew something felt wrong....I meant an airbrush.Jeeze I feel silly.
Oh well.

I have fired a lot of stuff at 500/900 psi, just not with this monster.

Yesterday I fired some water at 10 bar and later did a dryfire at 14 bar.
That was quite deafening already.
And I´m on the pilotside so the sound is moving away from me.

If I would fire anything at 500 psi, it would sound like a bomb going off.
I would need hearing protection for sure, and so would all my neighbours.

I´m doubting I can pull it off without getting into trouble.

Reflecting paint, the kind used to mark stuff in construction.
It looks just like the jackets roadworkers wear.Just really bright orange, and it lights up in the cameraflash.

Wish I had the money to use galv. fittings on demand for a large scale gun like this.. Looks like I'll have to live till I've got enough cash for a mill.

Waitaminute.

You can't afford standard malleable or galvanised iron fittings so you're going for a mill instead... the low end of which is around £600 minus cutting tools and accessories.

£100 or the equivalent will get everything you need for your own steel 2" piston cannon.

Where I live, everything is ridiculously expensive.. It's cheaper to have things shipped in from three states away.

The mill would benefit me, I build small compressed air motors for friends free flight models and a mill would cut the production time massively. It's quite an earner too, even though I've told them they need constant oiling they insist on running them dry... It's too hard to drum into their heads.. I also build many similar things etc...

malleable iron fittings are rather cheap in Poland.. pipes are even cheaper

anyway I am rather lucky becasue my father has lots different fittings and some pipes so I don't have to buy much stuff....

use google to compare prices - I've noticed that prices for exactly the same part may vary ~ 10 - 30 % depending on the place

I definitely respect THAT, I suppose any paint job can get boring after a while, but you must admit there's a fine line between making it look like a serious piece of equipment, and making them look like a fluorescent toy.

And every time I see a cannon painted like the american flag or glossy purple camo...

it just makes me wish they just cleared of any purple primer and just stuck with white PVC!

Love the flames BTB! Nice job especially considering the tools you had to work with. Now perhaps some pinstrips to highlight some of the chamber areas.

I've found that true with many things that are normally in the "man realm". Some (not all mind you, usually with the older ones) females, once they are have been properly presented the concept and have hands on, are amazed and become devotees.

While it's pretty rare to find guys as quick to cozy up to stuff from "the girl realm"....cooking sometimes being the exception to that.
